Students made their first minicomics in my intro making course - mostly standard format but this student, a first time maker(!), did something so off the charts I’m still reeling from it! & he made like 12 of them for his classmates! A paper engineering feat of flipbookery as well as killer drawing!

It's just been announced at NYCC so I guess I can tell you that I'm writing The Regulators for Marvel. My five issue comic series will be out in 2027. Mutants, magic and monsters woven into the very fabric of Jim Crow America.

Coming to the end of the gardening year here at the House of Inconvenient Stairs. Waiting for a few zinnias to set seed so I can collect them for next year, but other than that and a few straggler tomatoes, it's just a matter of watching everything gracefully subside as we lose the light.

Garagehenge is upon us. These planters only get direct sunlight for about 3 weeks around the spring and fall equinoxes. Seasonal gourds decorated by my clever children

Two circular planters containing shade plants--ferns, dead nettle anchovies cyclamen--in front of a garage door, with a squash and a small pumpkin decorated with smirking faces

Ivan Turgenev's "Execution of Troppmann" is a short essay, published in 1870, that gives a first-hand account of the writer attending a public execution in Paris. Turgenev's details how the drunk, unruly crowd turned a somber moment into a carnival. A deeply moving essay; I encourage you to read it.

Pete Hegseth says Americans will be able to watch a Trump-approved firing-squad execution. If he follows through, the U.S. could join a disturbing club of countries known for public executions—including Iran, Afghanistan, and North Korea.

I hope everybody has fun at NYCC. I'm still in Washington because I am theoretically doing a banned book event w/ Jonathan Evison out on the Kitsap Peninsula this weekend, but in true peninsular fashion they haven't given us any final details yet. I do not have FOMO at all I swear 😭

The Stolen Neighbors Quilt, made of 12,500 fabric squares and unveiled at the State Capitol’s rotunda, represents the lives of the estimated 11,000 people deported in Minnesota between the beginning of President Trump’s second term and the end of Operation Metro Surge.

To put this in perspective chestnut trees used to be dominant species in the United States. Billions of trees were killed by fungal blight and now fully grown America chestnuts are functionally extinct. There is no getting them back. Ever. All for a data center. www.gadgetreview.com/one-of-ameri...

One of America’s Last Chestnut Groves Is About to Be Destroyed for a Data Center

A rare 200-tree American chestnut grove in West Virginia may be cleared for data-center development, but the project denies the site is on its land.

Been sleeping poorly these last couple of weeks, and each day I have to resist the temptation to address the fatigue with extra caffeine, which just fuels the cycle
