I think part of the weirdly strong discourse around 9/11 this year is people looking at Trump smearing shit all over and burning everything down, and being able to very clearly go "yeah, Bin Laden absolutely called his shot" in a way that even during his first term would have been less defendable.

Fun one from a recent con chat with Japanese folks: Japanese people find it very odd that grown adults in the US walk around in Dragonball t-shirts and the like. It's not something you see in Japan. People enjoy anime, but don't build their identity around it. No different than any other TV shows.

*suddenly remembers the episode of House with a model who turns out, unbeknownst to her, to have bern born intersex, which the title character treats with his usual lack of tact - which is to say transphobic taunting* Yeah, I bet that episode plays terribly today. (Also, sigh.)
