I remain saddened that the age of fantasy TV and film adaptations didn't include a single Tamora Pierce one. Who else would have done a small murder to see a Keladry of Mindelan movie series? Or Diane Duane. Animated cat wizard shenanigans, maybe. Anyway. Was just thinking that there.

Saying it louder for those in the back: All Routes To Claim Refugee Status Are Regular Routes. There Is No Wrong Way To Be A Refugee.
Home Secretary confirming refugees who go through the asylum system will start at a 20 year route to settlement - but with 10 more years if they arrived irregularly. So many, many refugees will face a 30 year wait for settlement, all while facing reviews every 2.5 years.
If you ever wanted the perfect example of how utterly deranged "Gender Critical" ideology is it is the number of its proponents campaigning against a ban on what is recognised to be a form of torture because it would stop them abusing trans individuals into hiding who they are.
And there it is, prominent gender critical TERF / Sex and Race Realist Kathleen Stock begins the drumbeat on re-normalizing conversion therapy and abuse of lesbian and gay kids. It was never going to stop at trans people.
Imagine if Stonewall had responded to Section 28 by saying "we understand that this is the law". (Then again, it's worth remembering that in the 2000s they initially refused to support calls for legalising gay marriage...!)
If your research says trans people are being harmed by the Supreme Court judgement and can't live their lives normally... surely the very least you'd want to do is change/overturn/have legislative change to alter that judgement?

Highlight of trick or treating this year: the four kids marching down the street chanting "Pub! Pub! Pub! Pub!" As we pondered where to trick or treat in out close. (The pub did indeed have sweeties!)

When I lived in London I rang the GP for emergency meds for a known reaction. The receptionist wouldn't put me through or tell the GP and told me to ring 111, who sent me to hospital, but also rang my GP directly, who rang me and said to come to the surgery immediately to pick up the meds...
When I lived in London I didn’t have a named GP, just a practise. Every time I see the GP now it’s the same person, who knows me well enough that she clocked I had developed sepsis once when I thought I was just tired. Continuity of care matters.
I’m not a political journalist, so was gladly surprised at the community I found here last night. To Americans anxious about the upcoming elections, a key thing we learned in Brazil that might help you: DO NOT engage with the far-right online. Don’t share rage bait. Amplify your people. Ignore them.
There's resistance from people because many people are having to budget to even do the weekly shop & now Govt are telling us to buy extra to stick under the bed. What would Govt do in crisis, why aren't they telling us about their responsibility, water points, food distribution, information sharing.
Can't help thinking that Govt is giving vague advice & threats about us each individually needing to prepare for crisis so none of us will complain too much when more of our £ is taken away from the already wrecked essential services for life & put into big budgets for missiles, nukes & jets.
Hey, isn’t it weird that no mainstream media outlet has really engaged meaningfully with the revelation that centre right groups with close political links were not that far away from conducting a mass public execution and they’re neither remorseful or even slightly regretful of it. Anyway
Turning Point UK do not appear to have engaged at all with their chief executive offering to organise for cash a violent beating or a murder by UVF paramilitaries. They did post: "violence in Britain only comes from the left"
What's that you say? A UK study aimed at proving that ADHD and autism are over-diagnosed actually found that we are still under-diagnosing both, and lack access to assessments remains a huge barrier to support? What a shocking and unexpected conclusion! www.politicsuk.com/p/fonagy-rev...

Fonagy Review finds a substantial rise in mental distress among young people, while the population-level prevalence of ADHD and autism appears broadly stable.

I needed to keep quiet about this but this is what I was working on earlier this year. My publication “Harming Children: The Effects of the UK puberty-blocker ban” was evidence used for this! I had to submit a lengthy affidavit via NZ local trans group PATHA. Let’s hope we can overturn more now.

I think my gripe with Labour tackling predatory car park charges and ppl not wearing headphones on transport is that yes sure fine great to both of those but I can’t really bring myself to care about shit like that when trans women are dying of cancer because the NHS refuses to treat them

Don't get me wrong: it's very bad that a centuries old town hall caught fire, but a society that thinks this is worth getting preoccupied about and doesn't seem to much care about people losing hands and eyes and life is a society that needs a serious rethink of priorities
“Trans people could face delays and a greater risk of ‘corridor care’ under new NHS England guidance that means they will no longer be able to use same-sex wards, according to an internal report.” The British government could act right now and amend the law to end the segregation of trans people.

Maybe if this god awful anti-asylum government hadn't closed down remaining effective routes for people to bring their children to seek asylum, while making bs claims about "opening safe routes which they aren't, then people wouldn't have to take these risks with their children just to seek safety.
Laura can't get the upper hand when faced with Zack telling the truth
Not Laura Kuenssberg promoting the idea that local councillors are helplessly watching BBC 1 on a Sunday morning for guidance rather than... actually just democratically elected local leaders very capable of making their own decisions.
I actually think the use of the word “finally” is so telling as to the role our heavily right-wing media plays in our politics. Sources like The Telegraph have been pushing successive governments for trans-exclusionary policy for years. They’ve got what they wanted. This is now their victory lap.

NO COMPLAINTS! NOT ONE! Because people who aren't TERFs tend to be decent and want everyone to get their best treatment.
The wild thing to me is no cis people are remotely bothered by sharing a ward with a trans person. It's completely an elite manufactured problem. novaramedia.com/2023/10/04/t...
