Boots theory is just a pop culture phrase for part of the poverty trap - A phenomenon where escaping poverty has large upfront costs but not tackling those costs has greater long-term costs, locking people in poverty. This is not a seriously contested phenomenon. It's very well researched.

I don't really have an objection to the CEO saying Bluesky is open to all; it's kind of his job to do that. But as others have pointed out, the design of the site means it's harder for trolls/bots/chuds *and also* influencers/hypebeasts to get traction. The "bubble" here is actually normal humans.

That said, let us take a moment to thank our Bluesky Trans and Furry Elders for freaking out Jack Dorsey so much he bolted and left us this nice social media playground, taking most of his crypto chuds with him. We thank you for your service.

The Odyssey - Honestly great, really well done, surprising and successful dash of horror. Don't get the "film of the year" chat. It was great, not mindblowing. The rightwing chuds are missing out though. They're so focused on the diversity they missed it being aggressively (surprisingly) anti-war

Assassin's Creed: Odyssey is actually a pretty good Homeric story full of big personalities and personal journeys that don't line up perfectly with the will of the world and narrative. *But* it's also a bit of a slog and the CEO of Ubisoft is an abuser-enabling monster who deserves boycotted.

I’m shaking with fury. That is SOOOOOOOOO NOT me!!! I have THICK freeform locs, and that is a HUGE deal and... that's not me! NOT EVEN CLOSE! Look how much joy people have got out of arguing about The Odyssey this week. I have whole friendships based on the fact we loved the same books and TV shows. And it can be great and invigorating when you disagree. Why would I want something that’s just about me? Boring

I’m not sure whether this is just a psychological difference or AI bros fundamentally don’t understand the nature of an artistic experience, but: I don’t want a personalised film/book/podcast. I want to see/read/hear the same one as everyone else, so I can read reviews or discuss it with my friends
