Framing "The problem w ICE" as "billions that could be spent on healthcare" is a centrist messaging template crafted to avoid talking about racism — racism as a significant condition of both a war against migrants and opposition to public healthcare. A form of "the culture wars are a distraction."

I once worked at a university that gutted an entire (very popular and useful) learning center and replaced it with two guys who would teach you how to host blogs. every student had to have a blog. Every single one. Our syllabus had to mention blogs. We had to teach WITH blogs.

I cannot begin to count the amount of technology tools I have been told in the last 20 years that I need to teach my students how to use because they were the future. 95% of them are gone. A tool is a tool.

Today's reminder that the current genAI boom is powered by GPUs manufactured with a mineral called coltan (and other rare earths, and cobalt) mined through the labor of enslaved children in Congo, and the US and UAE fund the paramilitaries which protect those mines and keep those children enslaved.

What people who hate on sex workers don't get is that sex workers are some of the most politically informed people in our society. They have to be woke to survive their profession. Even if people regard them as trash almost every sex worker has an articulate politic & engages in political activity.

Anybody got questions as to whether this administration is trying to kill us all? I’ll clarify. Yes they are, intentionally. The poisoned food supply’s just one part, the collapsed infrastructure & slashing of services, ICE abducting & detaining thousands in torture & fully funded to capture us all.

Activists and community members gathered at The Home Depot in Monrovia for a vigil to mark the one year anniversary of the death of Roberto Carlos Montoya Valdez, and to remember others who have died over the past year during ICE raids, in ICE custody, or while in detention. 📹: Izzy Ramirez

Great thread. It’s about how manipulating salience — raising the profile of facts that fit a desired narrative — is a potent form of propaganda. I’d go even further: this is the most important way public opinion is changed today, and it’s the core method used by rightwing media. 1/

I've watched the right use this communication strategy (and close cousins of it) my entire life - and of course, it is much older. quick examples: "solar panels fail at night", "not all men" etc. In each case a true statement is made, yet each is a case of the bad kind of propaganda. 2/
