Regardless of how it turns out NO HE DIDN’T. It’s like saying I have more fingers on my left hand after counting 8 digits from left to right with a ring finger and a pinky still to report.

Republican power grabs in Kansas and Missouri are going down in flames with 18-25% of votes reported so far. Missouri's Amendment 4 aimed to make citizen-initiated constitutional amendments practically impossible. Kansas' Amendment 1 was designed to flip the state Supreme Court to ban abortion
Emily Wilson gets one more piece on The Odyssey and then she needs to move on and let us know what she thinks about Mallrats
THE $168 BILLION WAS TAKEN ILLEGALLY AND THE GOVERNMENT DIDN’T WANT TO GIVE IT BACK. Kill me I’ve wasted my life.
Bessent: "Here at the Treasury, I had $168 billion of tariff revenues that we're gonna have to refund. So when the Democrats scream, "Oh, the refunds should go back to the American people!', well, the American people had it, it was in the Treasury and it was paying down the debt."
Re-upping this question, now that we're in august! - Thinking about slides that are eventually accessible for screen readers - but also things like homework assignments and handouts, which I've historically prepared using LaTeX
I'm going to have to build new course materials from scratch for some new courses I'm teaching next year, and I might as well put in the time to make them fully ADA-compliant; anyone have suggested resources? (I'm thinking about how I prepare stuff posted to our CMS, which is Moodle, in particular)
Got my new office set up, including the exterior-facing display
Me buying Baumol’s goods: Haha fuck yeah!!! Yes!! Me buying Baumol’s services: Well this fucking sucks. What the fuck.
“My guy. You could just go ask them. They exist, they’re like right here, you could just go ask them.” Also she talked like this all the time. Like she once opened a conversation out of nowhere by saying “As I age, I begin to contemplate the inevitable disbursement of my estate”
- stop the public hand-wringing and doomerism. Things are worrying and scary, yes, but this is (y)our job to navigate it (you/we have the stability and, allegedly, the experience). We can afford to think about it and try things out! If we project despair publicly, then how is that going to go? 3/
One thing about Warsh wanting to reduce the number of meetings was that he recommended BoE do the same thing.

1/I'm trying to understand Kevin Warsh, and some of the reactions to what he has been saying. Warsh think forward guidance is a bad idea. I agree with that, but I don't think Warsh has the story right. His notion seems to be that, if he doesn't engage in forward guidance - which seems to mean...
Listening to the 7/29 FOMC press conference, I was struck by the tension between Fed Chair Warsh's frequently repeated preference for a less communicative Fed and his commitment to holding press conferences through the end of the year, which strikes me as possibly the worst of all possible worlds.

This is petty and irrelevant but Warsh’s “good family fight” thing has become a very tedious cliche very quickly!
I refuse to read any more 50k-vs.-lottery tweets until I start seeing some Bellman equations
honestly it would be just as amazing to me if the dog was lying about being psychic

Beyond being terrible guidance to give people on the specific issue… this is not how science works. A mountain of studies have failed to detect any link. That’s all the “ruling out the possibility” science can do.
CDC has updated its vaccine safety pages. Now says: "The claim 'vaccines do not cause autism' is not an evidence-based claim because studies have not ruled out the possibility that infant vaccines cause autism." Whoa #EpiSky #pediatrics #NeuroSky #PsychSky
Classic principal-agent problem. Those who choose which LMS a university will use will never get to use the LMS, and those who design the LMS never get to use the LMS.
LMSs are a case study of awful design (ex, changing a due date might take as many as 5-6 pages to click through). Wild that we need tools like this to make them a little less awful, but here we are
actual article history: started working on it when there was only one ZLB period to examine in recent US history, my coauthor and I had three kids between the two of us during the time we were writing this and trying to get it published. finally in press. doi.org/10.1093/jjfi...
