If you're still on Substack, you're helping platform fascists and their enthusiastic minions, such as Bari Weiss, whom they actively partnered with just before her move to CBS. Go check out @buttondown.com and @ghost.org instead. You can even migrate yours subscribers and subscriptions!

What if instead of starting substacks in twenty-fucking-twenty-six people learned to give one iota of a fuck about whether they want to associate themselves with nazis.

This is probably silly, but every now and then I stop and look at things like viaducts, shopping carts, chickens eating corn, or cats rolling there and back in sunlight and think how incredibly unlikely all of this is in the grand scheme of things. We could've been a barren ball of rock.

Functional programming question, for the Elixir language but I'm interested in generic answers too: When you have a list [a, b, c, d, e], how do you generate all possible permutations of list items?

The majority of us are a bunch of self taught people with rather spotty knowledge and that's fine! Kilian (also self taught) is here to share some of the computer science fundamentals you probably are missing with the aim to improve your code in the long term. piccalil.li/blog/program...

A problem with some open source people is that many can’t parse the difference between being technically able to do something in software and good software that can replace commercial software and if you want to kill Windows you absolutely need the latter. And we absolutely need to kill Windows.

Avis

It's been clear for a hot minute an anti-autism diagnosis campaign is in the works but I am truly stunned they are literally just going for the Detransitioner playbook

CSS tip: make sure that selected text remains readable. Style `::selection` to at least disable text effects like drop shadows, gradient fills, etc. A decent chunk of your users treat text selection as a reading aid, highlighting words or paragraphs to keep track of their position in the text.

Screenshot of a section of text on a website, with a heading and a couple paragraphs. Text is black on a light tinted gray background and has good contrast. The second paragraph is selected and has a dark pink background, which reveals a white drop shadow below each letter. The selected paragraph is very hard to read, being a bust mix of dark pink, black and white pixels.

Some personal/work news: I was laid off mid 2024 and took a sabbatical, which quickly turned into taking care of my pregnant partner (part time job) and then our twin babies (full time job ^^). How time flies! We also moved to Réunion recently.

After a couple decades reading standards from W3C et al, it’s a shock when you try to read some other specification published by someone else. Adobe: sure, try to fish out some PDF from the unsearchable entrails of our many websites. ISO: here it is, that will cost you CHF 227 for a 100-page PDF.

Anyone knows a cross-platform app that can stream audio/video from one device to another on the same wifi network? Everything I find is for phones, but I need it on a laptop too.
