Roosevelt Institute Book Club presents: The Wage Standard by Arindrajit Dube

Join us on August 6th in conversation with Arindrajit Dube to learn how corporations have set this “wage standard” and what it will take to reset the labor market toward a new, worker-focused one.

Parking reform wins because people organize. PRN helps local advocates, planners, and reformers make the case, connect with each other, and push for better policy. If you believe cities should have better parking rules, become a PRN member. Help build the movement. Become a member today.

This paper shows that immigration enforcement can _increase_ crime. Undocumented immigrants already have the lowest crime rate, but tough-on-immigration policy makes immigrants less likely to report crime. So immigration enforcement worsens the problem it was ostensibly meant to solve

Community Engagement and Public Safety: Evidence from
Crime Enforcement Targeting Immigrantst
By FELIPE GONÇALVES, ELISA JÁCOME, AND EMILY WEISBURST*
We study the role of victim reporting in the production of public safety.
We examine the Secure Communities program, a crime-reduction policy that involved police in detecting unauthorized immigrants and increased deportation fears in immigrant communities. We find that the policy reduced the likelihood that Hispanic victims report crimes to police and increased offending against Hispanics. The number of reported crimes is unchanged, masking these opposing effects. We show that reduced reporting drives the offending increase and provide the first elasticity of offending to victim reporting in the liter-ature, calculating that a 10 percent decline in reporting increases offending by 7.9 percent. I love Talarico and hope he wins. But he’s already raised $70M On the flipside, control of critical state legislatures will come down to seats where candidates raise 0.1% of that. I’ve researched the highest leverage swing district candidates you should donate to secure.actblue.com/donate/donat...

Donate to the candidates on the front lines of the fight against MAGA gerrymandering

These are anti-MAGA state candidates in *extremely* close races

This was still in my head so I had to draw it out to see what it looked like as one system, but here is the Other South Jersey bus network the SJTA runs It actually doesn't have the worst frequencies, I think only the Vineland-Atlantic City route had just one round trip

SJ Connects is slated to launch a free shuttle bus in Burlington County in September. It will concentrate on places close to Philadelphia and Camden such as Moorestown but connect to a larger system.

Having a kid is cool but waiting for the Explanations of Benefits to drop is like Xmas. Rushing downstairs, opening them up, seeing if the hospital got me any surprise out-of-network charges.

Kinda sad that there's a centralized system for my car's repair records but no such thing for medical records in the US. France, Germany, Japan, etc have it.

TikTok has incredible moderation team. Our InfoWars video about Multiple Horse Theory — the idea that there are many horses in the world and not just one — has been fully deemed misinformation and lost the formal appeals process. Confirmed by Larry Ellison: There is only one horse on Earth.

“I’ll be damned if I’m paying the State of New Jersey again, I paid it six years ago.” NJ e-bike riders livid over double sales taxing from MVC, which is now offering refunds. More on that, other issues coming up at MVC and more unanswered questions. [new post with corrected link]

Did you pay sales tax again at MVC for your e-bike? Apply for a refund

New Jersey's new e-bike law is in full effect, but questions about its implementation continue unabated as lawmakers decline comment.

Some of these parenting books are psychotic. The book for 123 Magic, the discipline system that has high quality evidence behind it, defines "liking your kid" as "if you get a night to yourself without your kid, then all of a sudden that plan is canceled, you are glad." I wouldn't be enraged but

Also, it's funny that the generics don't get locked up. I was in Manhattan & LIC CVSes & Tylenol was locked up but not acetaminophen. Maybe lockups are net positive if they encourage people to buy the same crap for lower cost.
