I block anything that smells like bots, AI, spam. I repost a lot of political stuff. It's my breadcrumb trail. If you don't care about politics, enjoy my cute doggo pfp but don't follow back.

You can/should read Emily Wilson's latest take on the Odyssey, but I'm logging on to convey my hairdresser's reaction. She was AGHAST that Nolan, with his million $ budget, gave Matt Damon ONLY 6 hair extensions. As a result, his hair did not blow around properly, & that ruined the film for her.

Nonsense. RBNZ estimated in May that the oil price shock would lead to higher unemployment for longer (yellow line) but today's data was worse than expected (again!) The trouble is the reckonomists believe their own recovery hype.

Philosophers used to moan about the assumption that things are only real if you could measure them. But honestly that’s a lot better than the assumption now that things are only real if you can monetise them.

I hope the most important lesson dems learn from the MI-07 Congressional race is that the time of not doing the work is over. We can no longer drop in candidates with nat'l security experience, who haven't lived in the district and rely on media campaigns. People need to show up and knock doors.

I saw a FB post from a thoroughly apolitical college acquaintance in this district who stuck a Lawrence sign in her yard because she met and talked with him and he showed genuine interest in her career as a pre-K educator and established local ties. Good candidates knocking doors goes a long way!

The best thing about Vote Blue No Matter Who is that it unloads a lot of cognitive burden. I wanted Tom Steyer to be in the Governor's race, but he's not so I'm gonna vote for Becerra. I don't follow his campaign at all: I'm voting for him because he's not a Republican.

good reminder that before the counting is over, election results don’t tighten. at no point is anyone trailing. nobody moves closer. they’re just tabulating the polls. it’s a fixed number that just isn’t done yet. to say otherwise is bad journalism but even worse math.

As one who spends a lot of time reviewing AI transcription: influential Partly a NZ pronunciation problem. Many such cases, like "Infratil" being rendered "infertile". And the problem is compounded by the LLMs reliably selecting real words that are hard to pick up with spellcheck. But no excuses
