Some people, when thinking on a political issue, should really be asking themselves what they're working for. - Do I want the system to change, or do I just want roles within the system to be reversed? - Do I want a solution, or do I want revenge? - Do I want peace, or do I want punishment?
I remember when my "treat" for myself when I got a bonus or a little extra money was to not look at or compare prices while grocery shopping. Even tho I am making more money now, this seems like a decadant luxury. Sometimes lately, I find myself priced out of getting hot dogs.

They shouldn’t be forced to beg for scraps, barred from having assets or forced to re-justify their disability over and over. When basic needs are denied, people die. It’s passive eugenics.

Let's draw the line here and now.
My take on the kids in the library thing is that if you want to use free, public spaces, you need to increase your tolerance of people who are unlike you and who also want to use those free, public spaces. That means children. It also means homeless people and people you think are weird-looking.

A free labor market is only possible with UBI. Without UBI, people don't have negotiation power. If one party doesn't have negotiation power, then it's not really a free market.
Food pantries(even at their absolute best) are no substitute for adequately funding SNAP.

the only people who could ever earnestly support means testing are people who've never had to be means tested before. it is a humiliating, dehumanizing bureaucratic hostage negotiation with a system whose primary purpose is to *not* provide financial support as often as humanly possible

Barnett@ericacbarnett.bsky.social · 2w agoThe Seattle City Council just voted 6-3 to approve Joy Hollingsworth's amendment to delay universal school lunches for kids, replacing them with vouchers for qualifying low-income parents to buy groceries over school breaks and weekends. Eddie Lin, Alexis Mercedes Rinck, and Rob Saka voted no.
