horrid moth. they/whatever https://drawingwithjerin.com/stitchedmoon/
guy who has only seen the boss baby, watching a gang of depraved billionaire sociopaths throw an apocalyptic temper tantrum upending 80 years of economic, social, and political order:
we fucked up a perfectly good planet is what we did. look at it. it's got billionaires
the explicit goal is to take everything that’s good about this country and smash it to pieces and it’s just so, so depressing
This, by the by, is an effing disaster if it holds up. The number of public libraries that will go under if IMLS is shuttered is mind-boggling. www.whitehouse.gov/presidential...
This is going to kill many public libraries, especially in rural areas. If you use a public library, you will be impacted. #imls is a dust mote in the federal budget. It also provides things like internet at your local library so people can apply for jobs and kids can do homework.

This administration is trying to destroy access to knowledge. Please call your representatives and sign EveryLibrary’s statement to support libraries, museums, and other cultural heritage institutions.
In a new executive order, Trump has targeted the federal agency charged with distributing congressionally approved funds to state libraries and to library, museum, and archives program grant recipients. www.everylibrary.org/statementiml...
ahhhh everything is stupid and disgusting *disappears for another 3 months*
Hey All: Google is pulling the "automatically on for anyone over 18" bullshit with Gemini that the Dropbox did for its AI, but I can't afford to ditch Google Drive/Docs/Workspace. If you have a personal Google Account, first go to gemini.google.com/extensions and turn everything off...
I was explaining to spouse what "fan death" is and he said "I thought that was when a fandom becomes so toxic that the person who liked the thing dies inside you"
Again: The decades of organized conservative attacks on public education are a massive part of producing this outcome It is this way because it serves certain interests to have it this way
Literacy is relevant to understanding the election: 54% of adults in the United States read at below a 6th grade level. These people might not be aware of what the words “fascism” or “tariff” mean, but they did know their groceries cost more. www.thenationalliteracyinstitute.com/post/literac...
fwiw there's also a pretty significant correlation between literacy (or lack thereof) and incarceration/involvement with the criminal justice system
Eugenics is a non-starter. Selectively withholding the franchise of voting is a non-starter. And yes, I think felons should be allowed to vote, and prisons and detention centers should all be polling places. Allowing the government to take away a person's right to vote is ridiculous and dangerous.
So many ostensibly progressive people will see stats like this and immediately start sneering about how we need to restrict voting rights, or breeding (this is eugenics!) instead of figuring out how to reach this portion of the voting public (much less help them), or how to reverse the trend.

Ngl, I’m feeling less despair the last few days and more “fine, you absolute pieces of shit, if that’s what you want.”
Take this energy with you into the coming years.
Starting a thread of blocklists to share (feel free to reply with your favorites)
Just a reminder to support your local public libraries! Write letters of support. Use the library often & in many different ways. Show up to meetings. Library staff have been begging for help, advocacy, and action for years. Please show up for libraries.
I've been saying forever that our country's failure to foreground Reconstruction and its destruction in our national narratives—in schools, in popular culture—was a big part of why we kept getting our history so wrong. Expect me to be thrusting a lot of stuff like below at y'all as we go forward.
I keep coming back to 1876 as the analogy: not the end of competitive elections or the establishment of a nationwide one-party state, but a catastrophic blow to constitutional government from which it took 90 years to sort of recover. But the North was able to avert its eyes from the consequences, 1
heard a clip of tr*mp's voice and started pretending to throw up and my dog looked over very concerned, so I guess that instinct works both ways
YES. Public libraries are literally one of the very greatest things about this country. Support them in your community because they provide LOADS of services that no one else does - and folks will need that more and more under Trump. But the Democratic Party should do this as well. Everywhere.
Remember, in totalitarian states, among the first people to be silenced are the artists, the poets, the writers. There's a reason for that. Be that reason. If you do art, keep doing art. Do it with as much passion as you can muster. Express yourself.
This is your reminder that writing is a political action.
It seems we are already losing sight of the fact that a handful of billionaires effectively turned our information ecosystem into a Superfund site, no one knows how to clean up the mess, and simply telling the truth and hoping people find it is woefully insufficient
I've talked to a few folks this morning who were talking about stopping work on their creative projects. Because it's "not important anymore." I don't know who needs to hear this, but DON'T DO THAT. We win by living our lives as loudly and truly as we can. That includes your "silly" art project.
