Trying to do right by the world, in part by using computers and cryptography. (🦋 DMs disabled, please use Germ 🦠)

Today, August 4, 2026, is the setting of Ray Bradbury’s short story “There Will Come Soft Rains” about a fully automated house continuing on after the family who lived there and the world around it died in a nuclear blast.

Germ now joins Signal and iMessage in bringing you post-quantum cryptography. The journey to quantum-secure cryptography is one we all should be taking. MLS implementers can find our open-source library here. bsky.app/profile/mark...

@chenani.bsky.social helped us build a triple ratchet implementation, shadowing iMessage’s PQ3 and Signal’s SPQR to add a PQ ratchet to our existing double ratchet on MLS. Very grateful for his…

That's what taxes are, man. That's the definition of taxes. "You are subsidizing things you might never use" man shut the fuck up. My taxes currently subsidize like oil company exec private jets, you think I'm upset at low-income people eating inexpensive bananas?

Opinion: Mamdani's idea may sound appealing, but it's NYC taxpayers who will take the hit, subsidizing discounts they may never even use.

ANOTHER death in ICE custody, this time at the controversial Delaney Hall facility. This makes 54 deaths since Trump took office; 1 every 8 days in 2026. His mother says he was denied adequate medical care for chronic conditions, a common accusation ICE has strenuously denied.

Breaking: Another victim, Edwin Jovanny Lopez Cornejo, has died in ICE custody at Delaney Hall prison after being denied vital medication and family visits. Depriving sick detainees of care until they die is murder by neglect. We demand complete transparency and justice for Edwin! 🎥 Statuscoup

Good day for a reminder that any individual member of the House can, at any time, all on their own, no permission needed, force a privileged vote on expelling another member.

I feel like we’re going to look back at that time in summer 2026 when we thought it was so surprising that models could find new mathematical results that we still wrote Twitter threads about it. I wonder what life will be like then.

the three guys who voted in favor of that birthright citizenship EO should be impeached and removed just for that alone. it's sufficient! you simply cannot do the job you were assigned to do. time to go. kavs lawyer-weaseling around it just barely saves him

It fucking says a lot that CPS took Pete Buttigieg’s kids away on the basis of an anonymous complaint, while Max Miller still has joint custody of his child.

Again, as with monetizing the presidency in plain sight, this stuff is the most elemental Are We A Federal Union Or Not? thing that should immediately end a presidency. Reverse nullification. A constitutional order that cannot punish this is not worth saving. We need massive institutional reforms.

Trump: "We heard in Minnesota there was a cyberattack and they blame it on Iran. I don't think so. I blame it on Minnesota because they're grossly incompetent. Iran's got bigger problems than worrying about Minnesota."
