The Tories have selected a convicted former Neo-Nazi as a councillor. Here's why that reflects very poorly on Jeremy Corbyn.

Liddle to be celebrated
An honest obituary for Rod Liddle, dead at 66, dead inside for many years before that.

This whole incident is helpfully instructive, isn’t it. Here, we have the country’s worst politicians, including a former Prime Minister, queuing up to salute a bold iconoclast who irreverently spoke truth to power and discomfited the great and good. It makes it pretty clear, does it not.
The Times, one of the leading voices when it comes to 'protecting women and girls' calling a man who assaulted his young pregnant girlfriend, said he would rape the kids if he was a teacher and called for child sex abuse porn to be legal, 'brilliant'
Bluesky oldheads will remember that brief period of time when the conservative trolls tried to storm the place and were flummoxed by the idea they would have to organically grow an audience and that someone who didn't want to talk to them could nuke every interaction they ever had from orbit
I am going through Bram Stoker’s earliest notes on DRACULA today - they include a list of the powers and features of the Count (then named “Wampyr” before Stoker stumbled on “Dracula”), many of which are never elucidated in the book…
Life lessons for today: would you rather be remembered like Jimmy Cricket, or Rod Liddle? It's not hard to answer is it?
I know a lot of people who knew Jimmy Cricket, and they all say he was as lovely as you'd imagine and hope.
Be interesting to see who mourns the death of a journalist who was arrested for punching his pregnant partner and who said he couldn't become a teacher because "I could not remotely conceive of not trying to shag the kids." Bet it's the "protecting women and children" crew
'Ohh ohh Rod Liddle was a complicated figure but he was a terribly witty writer and so charming at Dinner Parties. You absolutely mustn't celebrate his untimely, tragic, death' - British journo who's just had a vision of their future.
Columbo: well that’s interesting. Ah, probably nothin’ Killer <stiffly>: what is it, detective? Columbo: well it’s just that, my wife, she’s always asking me, why do they call it oven when you of in the cold food of out hot eat the food? Isn’t that strange?
Currently reorganising my paperbacks and came across my TNT collection - aka the wildest, most ridiculous and over-the-top men’s adventure series ever published. Let the synopses give you a taste of what’s inside:

Gotta shut down the factory that makes this kinda guy
"This just gives Reform fuel!" "That just plays in to the hands of the rightwing press!" "They have to be better than this because the right latches on to it!" These are all true 100% of the time whenever the left does anything at all leftwing because the right never stops whining and complaining.
"I haven't slept well in weeks." "God I get headaches all the time." "I dunno I just feel kinda bad today."
it’s insanely funny that haus of decline’s content or publicly expressed views haven’t really meaningfully changed in years but within six months of coming out as a trans woman everyone gets mad at her like every three to six months
bloomberg has a fun article today arguing that the Cybertruck is the biggest flop in automotive history. it includes this glorious graph.

This is basically a purity test that concludes that the son of two Holocaust survivors doesn’t meet the passing grade for Jewishness in the eyes of the Jewish Chronicle. I’d say it was shocking but it’s exactly in line with that publication’s track record.
So just how Jewish is Ed Miliband? www.thejc.com/news/politic...

The British right wing press has been doing “sadly Amnesty International has lost its way, so it must be ruthlessly destroyed” for almost twenty years, since I started paying attention. Usually by giving the reporting to the nastiest, most malicious crackpots on the payroll, as they’ve done here.
