Writing a book: First you're going to go quietly mad for a few years. You're going to make a private precious thing that only you know about. It's delicate, introverted and lonely work. Ok? Good so now PUT IT OUT THERE FOR EVERY PERSON TO SEE!!! NOW SELL IT!!! MARKET THE PRECIOUS SECRET BABY!!!!!!
I did go to the gym today today and did my assisted pull-ups and dips, but I didn't much feel like taking a picture. It wasn't the best session, and I still don't feel great in myself.
Since this is my only public-facing internet presence, here's my AI policy: I don't use AI for my writing. I don't use it for idea generation or editing. I don't use it for publicity. I have not in the past, and will not in the future. I have "no AI" statements in all the contracts that I sign.
This is anecdotal but I've been told I'm in the wrong restrooms in the uk last year, which has never happened before (I just stared, and it was fortunately not confrontational)
The EHRC's Code of Practice has been condemned as a "system of segregation", "impractical and inhumane", and even "genocidal in nature" It comes into force today
I'm not sure why we're posting about ai but I don't use AI in my writing, in my cover art, etc. I've had every feature that could automatically modify text in Word turned off for decades, and AI is just more of the same. Every edit lovingly done by hand.
New readers often ask me which of my science fiction #books they should read first. To help, here are my most recent releases grouped by series and category. Which one catches your eye?
If anyone is wondering, I don't use generative AI. It offers me nothing useful creatively and nothing trustworthy as research. The environmental impact is appalling and the companies who developed it stole copyright intellectual property knowing that is illegal. GenAI is dishonest at every level.
Saw Spiderman last night and thought it was both surprising and excellent. I'd definitely rank it among the best post-Endgame Marvel movies and comparable with the movies before Endgame, too.

All of the people who are telling you to 'just get used to AI because it's here to stay' are the ones who feel the need to convince you not to fight it. Just a thought. Happy Wednesday!
Got my copies early 😁 It's got my story inside! (see my pinned post)

Happy Wednesday all! It's been a busy start, and I'm hoping to get back to gym today. Not feeling so bad compared to the last few days, so fingers crossed it isn't too bad. Hope you're all having a good one!
The sooner someone brings back YahooGroups that are based around e-mail mailing lists, the better.
Bluesky's new CEO Toni Schneider on the platform's reputation for being a liberal bubble: "Yes, we definitely want that to change. It is already changing. It certainly wasn’t designed to attract one specific group of people."
We need a new word for that particular type of stupidity where you blindly trust generative AI without even the most basic check on its output.
The State Department said it takes "full responsibility" for "hastily" altering and then presenting a map of Africa at a global AIDS conference that mislabeled every single country it highlighted. An analysis by Reuters found a watermark in the map image that suggests it was made with OpenAI.
It's very easy to say 'I did not use AI in my writing and editing.' The fact that certain authors are tying themselves in linguistic knots to not say that while claiming their work is their own, is rather telling.
‘The EU has come under fire for placing more demands on businesses, and rules that will ultimately force all content to be labelled given the rapidly growing widespread use of AI across Europe.‘ Please, spare us the sob story. If you can make it, you can label it. www.euronews.com/my-europe/20...

Look, I'm busy fighting chronic pain and depression here. I'll make this quick: -I don't use GenAI because I actually love writing. -It's built on theft. -It's an environmental disaster. -It's constructed by corpos to addict and disable you. -My younger self would've been addicted to it.
