You know what we’re not going to hear enough about next Friday? Nobody with a major platform is going to point out that a lot of the fascism we’re living in now was made possible by the hyper-surveillance, security theatre, and rank Islamophobia that got kicked off in the wake of 9/11/01.

It's a cancer and I'll take the pain of a Republican over losing Democrats as a party and therefore losing our rights for an entire generation with nobody left to fight for us. We cannot reward this at all.
When there are multiple stories about data centers simply building gas turbines without permits, PROVING they can’t be trusted, you’d be a fool to trust them. This is not paranoia, it’s pragmatism.
Anil Dash@anildash.com · 2d agoI'll add some nuance here — most local pushback against data centers is actually quite fluent, and not grounded in the more wild-eyed rhetoric you see on social media. Very often, the core premise is a simple, correct one: you can't trust what Big Tech says in its promises to a local community.

Yes, Ed Markey is old. But Ed Markey truly seems to genuinely care about his constituents, and treat his position as what it is: public service. Seth Moulton has always been willing to throw people under the bus for power. That's not acceptable.
I would 100% support a law that says if any digital platform removes your access to media you paid for then they are required to refund you the entirety of the original purchase price. That would solve this whole thing in a hurry.

Matt Novak@paleofuture.bsky.social · 3d agoThis is pretty fucking wild. I had assumed in a worst case scenario he would target blue zip codes and toss ballots based on technicalities but this is even worse than I imagined.
I truly don’t know how we undo the damage the Right has done not just to science institutions but to simply the desire to educate and be educated in this country. Many of our systems of scientific outreach are irreversibly dead and there was little pushback from the public.
We need to stop calling these things robot dogs. Don't let the marketers soften their image by associating them with dogs. They aren't dogs. They're urban weapon platforms. They're authoritarian enforcement drones. They're wannabe terminators.

Ive been thinking the same thing, and kind of hesitant to say it out loud because we're already a group considered to be luddites and technophobes, when its really our sense that students absolutely must train their own minds to read primary sources, and think/write with primary+secondary sources.

brain, i understand that you'd rather do Preferred Activity, but right now we have to do Task. if we finish task we can do Preferred Activity WITHOUT feeling weighed down by the need to do Task. do you see how that works ah it's biting me my brain is biting me
y'all one of my work's biggest clients who loved using gen-AI for everything just completely banned it for every aspect of creative moving forward. companies are backing away from AI due to negative public sentiment - keep it up!
