This started up as a write-up for a cool hack I made (Atproto DID + Tailscale, coming soon 😎), but like many times before it started taking a life of its own, about how an integration of small scale networks is a more sustainable version of "internet scale" than large tech monopoly data centers.

i still currently believe that free and open-source software bundled with self-hosted options are the only sustainable path forward for content creators longterm we should be educating and sharing knowledge on these tools now more than ever

There's not an abundance of teachers, and there's not an abundance of contextually-efficient matching between what's needed to break into a career and "learning to code." There is an abundance of bad and misleading content too.

Great news: the talks from Jubensha Con are now available online for FREE! Big thanks to our amazing speakers for agreeing to this, and to Joe Strickland at @chronicinsanity.bsky.social for producing the videos. A lot of much bigger and more expensive conferences don't do this – but we just did.

I took this weekend class, "Research as a Leisure Activity" run by Laurel Schwulst and Celine Nguyen, with 17 other really amazing and different people. One of the biggest things I took away from this was the realization that I already have a love of learning and collection and do it constantly,

Networked computing, in a fundamental way, changed the producer-consumer relationship we have with corporations. In the material world that relationship ends with the transfer of material and money; I buy a pencil and some paper, and the producer is out of the picture while I use them to write.

Local models report with a lovely d3-based task set. "[strong models] led to constant rework and surprises at later stages. So I've enjoyed that the weaker models make me go slower, and take more care in the moment, instead of deferring that comprehension and care to the future."

None of us can know what we don't know. I have a lot of known unknowns wrt software: I know I'm not a web developer or database engineer, but I know I'm damn good at statistical thinking. The challenges of this age aren't about replacing expertise but learning to share it

some highlights for the time-poor: 🎤 upcoming standalone apps for dialogue planning/management, VO processing 🤖 our substantive collection of sample scenes are coming to Godot 🧶 new features like custom-typed function parameters, and ReWired integration 💚 loads of new YS games from the SGF events!
