Salty recovering journalist, lapsed political philosophy student and Nova Scotian/resident of Mi’kma’ki. “Wild-mannered”.
I’m telling you this as a political scientist. The person who is electable is the one who is elected. This can and does change over time. Any and all speculation about “electability” is either puffery or anxiety and is often both.
One way to be safe is to never write an electability take
On this day in 1944, the Gestapo found Anne Frank and her family in their Secret Annex. Her diary stands as a warning against hatred and persecution. Eighty years later, we should recognize the warning signs before it’s too late.🙂↕️
honestly can't stress enough, as a former family law attorney, how depressingly common Max Miller's behavior and words are, right down to the petty fixation on custody procedure and rules when faced with allegations of shocking violence.
Rep. Max Miller: "When I was reported for child abuse of my daughter for a broken collarbone, my daughter was in my ex-wife's care 9 out of the last 11 days and she took her to the emergency room, which is a contempt violation from our shared parenting plan."
One more interesting point: this spring I sat down with Sharyn Alfonsi of 60 Minutes for an extensive interview about my Epstein investigation. Subsequently, CBS pulled the segment and fired the reporter. The MAGA buyout of media has unquestionably aided the Trump administration’s cover up here.
Bombshell new report out from my investigators this morning spanning our four year investigation into Jeffrey Epstein’s financial records. This report shows exactly how Wall Street protected Epstein and enabled his sex trafficking for decades. Mega thread following with some key points:

This is misleading. If you say the Rhine’ s “water levels drop to lowest level since 1880,” that implies that the river was this dry in 1880. But 1880 is just when we started keeping records! So what you need to say is: the river is at its lowest level since records began.
ICE already has a program that forces immigrants to download a phone app and check in via face rec, so it’s really just a choice to tag people like animals.

Me: Going to bed early to avoid some of the Tuesday-post-long-weekend blues. Dog 1: what if I frantically bark and demand to go out to pee just after you fall asleep ? Dog 2: what if I go out too, not just to pee, but to open the gate and and you need to go out in the rain to find me ?
If you're a cis person insisting that the prospect of trans children playing youth sports is not only "a problem" but in fact one of the biggest problems we currently face as a nation, I'd be happy to introduce you to literally a million other things that should be worrying you more.
I'm not going to be relitigating COVID lockdowns or mask mandates. Both were necessary measures that saved lives. If you cannot accept the curtailing of even the minor of freedoms in the name of public safety, you have demonstrated that you do not give a solitary fuck about the rest of us.
The only way forward imo, is to spread the good news of More Than One Thing Can Be True to break out of these pernicious nonsense dichotomies. For example, public health measures can be annoying and inconvenient and expensive and tedious and not 100% effective and also the best course of action.
I know we’re all supposed to find Sen. Kennedy charming. But wgen he says that “he grows anxious when he has an unexpressed thought,” it’s just a way of deflecting and refusing to tell the truth about Trump, which is that he’s a shameless and contemptible liar.
Sen. John Kennedy on Trump's blatant reflecting pool lies: "The president says it was caused by vandals. I don't know if he really believes that or it's part of his political messaging or he's just thinking out loud ... he grows anxious when he has an unexpressed thought."
Those who believe things like this are working hard at not understanding the finite options available to someone whose abuser has not been prosecuted, found guilty, etc. by the law. And how rarely those things happen to abusers, esp. high-status white male abusers.
Rep. Max Miller: "These are incredibly serious criminal accusations. If these accusations were true, I would be in jail — I would be. My former wife would not have been offering to cook me dinner and inviting me to playgrounds. Think about that."
I saw someone say they should have cut off the interview but this rant with the chyron below is brutal for him
RFK Jr yelling at Dana Bash sounds like a rabid dog barking

The disclosure marks the first time a bank has formally tied money laundering concerns to Trump's family business.
A foul odor plagues a tiny Canadian town for over twenty years, but relief finally arrives. Crews in Newfoundland and Labrador begin an extensive cleanup operation to drain thousands of gallons of rotting fish sauce left behind at an abandoned factory, ending a decades-long crusade.
Rotten fish sauce that has long stunk up a small Canadian town is finally being removed
The townspeople of St. Mary’s can now breathe a sigh of relief. They are finally getting rid of the foul smell of rotten fish that has for years wafted over their tiny community in Canada’s easternmost province.

We've gotta make the Monorail Simpsons episode required viewing for every city councilor in the country. Every single thing he says here is a lie. A Potemkin Village Imaginarium.
Hassett: "Data centers are very good for towns bc they create so many jobs & bring people in with high incomes that can buy houses & stuff like that. So if you take a sleepy town that hasn't seen much in the last 30 years & put a data center there, there are gonna be a bunch of happy residents."
I mean this is fundamentally one of the big reasons why data centers have no local constituency: they don’t actually create a lot of jobs they’ll employ some folks during construction but the actual day to day operation of a data center really doesn’t need many people, especially given its size
