Over an hour on the phone trying to cancel Telus since I'm moving, discovering I've been paying $30/mth for some security plan and I'm on some contract I never signed up for. What a deeply unethical company.

personally I think it's a very big deal that the Canada bureau chief for the @nytimes.com — certainly one of the highest-paid journalists in the country — asked an unspecified "AI tool" what Poilievre said & published its AI-hallucinated quotes in her reporting.

Editors’ Note: May 1, 2026 This article was updated after The Times learned that a remark attributed to Pierre Poilievre, the Conservative leader, was in fact an A.I.-generated summary of his views about Canadian politics that A.I. rendered as a quotation. The reporter should have checked the accuracy of what the A.I. tool returned. The article now accurately quotes from a speech delivered by Mr. Poilievre in April. He said, “My personal opinion is that when a member of Parliament goes back on the word they made to their constituents and switches parties, constituents should be able to petition to throw them out and have a byelection. That would put the people back in charge of our democracy rather than having dirty backroom Liberal deals by Mark Carney determine our destiny.” He did not refer to politicians who changed allegiances as turncoats in that speech.

🚨 the ecosystem is delicate #atmosphereconf there's a LOT of enthusiasm + talent, but: - no magical investor monies - grant options are THIN - many first time founders - many don't want investment - few other options - scary macro env it's a collective challenge we can just pay for things?

Founders+Funders session at #atmosphereconf was a rollicking broad-ranging session thx @bmann.ca @ricardo.bsky.social for organizing below are some themes/observations we need to talk a LOT more about funding to achieve an Atmosphere where builders have stable housing, food to eat, and healthcare

feedback/recs/observations - share metrics, any numbers at all really (tune to audience) - communicate your monies (raised/received, what your ask is) - name your partners / any integrations/integrators / key users - say your url / handle, so ppl can open/try/save immediately - tell your personal story (but not too much, can't be the only thing) - make clear/concrete asks - it's generally ok to drop references, build cred - communicate your qualifications/experience (distinct from cred) - no acronyms - MAU matters, it's #realtalk, communicate it - if you don't already have/know, at least be able to communicate ideas for revenue to potential investors (they're investing to make money duh) - demonstrate you know how your industry *really* works - differentiator: why your thing is better/correct, and how validated that - funding: the room was a mix of vc and never-vc and unsure - the one sentence description was a near universal fail - communication depends on audience, know when to remix/reshape

Finally figured out how to get blackbox exporter monitoring working with prometheus operator and Probe resources. It immediately flagged that I had an expired SSL cert … turns out I had a typo in a YAML file. :-)

I'm still writing code the hard way. I'm slow. I like to think critically about every line of code and fiddle with variable names until everything looks right. I treat code as a liability and try to ship only what's necessary. It's hard to imagine writing code any other way.
