This is AFAIK my most right-wing coded opinion. (no idea what #2 would even be) In addition, elections and politics are very important and I think it’s generally OK to let people spend money on important things

I think people should consider that the left broadly lost on campaign financing because *we were wrong.* I don't think there's a reasonable way you can square the first amendment with the kind of robust campaign finance restrictions people want.

The Maine secretary of state says Graham Platner *has* formally withdrawn from the Senate race. This is ahead of the Monday deadline, and so the Democratic party will be authorized to replace him, by July 27th.

He's probably just being an egotistical flake, but there are campaign finance consequences that trigger when he formally drops out, things you have to stop spending on. I suspect we'll see, when the report gets filed, a lot of shoveling money out the door as quickly as possible these last few days.
