This week trivia night had an artist identification category, and my team turned to me with huge smiles, because I love me some art history. And then I totally brainfarted Caravaggio and Goya. The Goya was fucking Saturn Devouring His Children, too! Urge to shrink into a corncob rising.

It’s nice to see everyone’s textual analysis of The Odyssey It’s almost like the humanities give you entertainment, feelings, pleasure, and fun/interesting stuff to talk about, as well as lenses into both past and current society

I wasn't sure what I was expecting from Nolan's Oddessy, but I had high hopes for it- hopes that were fortunately met and exceeded. I certainly did NOT expect Nolan to turn it into an absolute banger of an anti-war film!

i'm getting flashbacks to final fantasy the spirits within. remember aki, the first "digital actress"? sony had big plans to reuse her model in different movies and roles. the press ran articles expressing concern about the future of human actors. then the hype train crashed into reality.

I hate this headline. I hate it so much. Let me tell you why. It makes it sound like the AI was "cast" in a movie, except the movie is being made by the same people who made Tilly, it's all in house, I might as well announce that Dan Olson has been cast as the host of a Folding Ideas doc.

it goes without saying that it's racist to refer to immigrants as "invaders" who must be met with lethal force, but the 'traitors then invaders' framing here isn't just xenophobia - it's a recurring theme in some of the most violent neonazi propaganda of the late 20th century.

If you don't want all the big money in publishing to go to celebs, talk about books you love. Write about them. Borrow books that excite you from the library. Read reviews. Listen to podcasts about books. Go to book events if you can afford it. Celebs get book deals because people talk about them.

Fuck the reflecting pool. This has not gotten nearly enough coverage or generated the proper outrage. People thrown in prison for 30-50 years for the "crime" ofmaking zines and belonging to a book club!! This is straight-up totalitarian atrocity. Political prisoners thrown in a gulag to rot.
