Huge congratulations to Professor Jacob Tsimerman of the University of Toronto on receiving the Fields Medal — one of the highest honours in mathematics. Nearly a century after Canadian mathematician J.C. Fields established this award in Toronto, it comes home.
🚀 Can automation solve preferred orientation in your #cryoEM datasets? After automating processing across 21 GPCR datasets in #CryoSPARC, we updated the workflow to be even more robust to preferred orientation, achieving improved map quality over manual processing. Read more 👉 bit.ly/3RyOIGG

New preprint! Karin Schumacher's postdoc Nadja used our SidK approach to purify Arabidopsis V-ATPase & Mariia Khamina determined its structure. The structure shows unique plant V-ATPase features and that TLDc proteins (here OXR5) bind V-ATPase in all eukaryotes. 🌱 tinyurl.com/mw9xaszk

For years, the #cryoEM community viewed ~50 kDa as the practical lower size limit for SPA. This was challenged by Kim et al., who introduced the HR-HAIR method and demonstrated structure determination of proteins below 30 kDa using #CryoSPARC. Read more 👉 bit.ly/3RHMxAt

Long shot, but, with lots of labs turning from crystallography to cryo-EM I’m wondering if anyone knows of labs potentially looking to offload some of their old crystallography supplies to a PUI with potential screening hits and really eager students but nothing to harvest with, etc.?
One, perhaps two, of our postdocs are moving on to faculty positions this year (more news soon!). While they're truly irreplaceable, it does mean that we have openings for new members to join our team studying #cilia. If interested, please apply: academicpositions.harvard.edu/postings/15526
