Today marks an escalation in the Minneapolis government structure wars we've been fighting since 2021. Mayor Frey has decided MPD and other departments don't have to show up to answer questions from the city council, so he's directing them not to. They can do it via memo.

the prospect north loop data center in the old star tribune building is dead. legacy has terminated its purchase agreement for the site there’s been a lot of organizing by north loop residents against this, hope many take this as their entry to being civically active

thank you jamal osman, aurin chowdhury, jason chavez and robin wonsley for "workers drive minneapolis"! waymo is a labor issue, and we cannot allow for gains won by east african drivers who organized with MULDA to be erased. we must protect our workers and stand up against big tech taking their jobs

Osman represents Ward 6, which has a large East African community with many ride-share drivers. He has said Waymo would put thousands of people out of work, particularly immigrants and people of color.

A 2024 state study found there are more than 10,000 rideshare drivers in Minnesota, mostly in the Twin Cities and most of them low-income, male immigrants and predominantly Black or African Americans.

Minnesota Uber/Lyft Drivers Association President Eid Ali has said his group — which spent years organizing Uber and Lyft drivers and advocating for minimum wages and labor protections — is not opposed to progress, but wants it to be responsible, transparent and fair to workers who helped build the transportation industry.

we should reject waymo on the basis of supporting labor in minnesota, where uber and lyft drivers fought to score a statewide minimum wage! and don't forget that lyft contributed $10,000 to all of mpls this year to reelect mayor frey and get a city council allied with him. they are making moves

Labor Day Pop quiz!📝 Why does my opponent have 0 Labor union endorsements? A) Because he is a partner at the country’s most notorious union-busting law firm. B) Because he worked for Trump. C) Because he has spent a majority of his career defending corporations and getting rich.

Meanwhile, the US was the only country in the world to oppose a recent UN declaration about the need to reduce crash deaths. The vote was 162 to 1.

In the new episode, @davidzipper.bsky.social noted that the US is so uniquely bad at road safety that the OECD now calculates global crash trends without including US data. That prevents America's struggles from overshadowing other countries' progress.

Editorial Board: "Those who've devoted their political energy to giving leverage to the police union to take all the city's money now outraged over massive tax increase."

Does Angie Craig have policy priorities besides "fight Donald Trump" which she's had ample opportunity to do & has failed spectacularly at? Peggy Flanagan has been campaigning on Medicare for All, childcare affordability, no more money for endless wars, etc. What's Craig's plans?

🚨🚨🚨EHB talks MPD 🚨🚨🚨 I am extremely concerned about the impact that MPD spending will have on our property taxes and budget priorities this year. Now is the time to speak up to stop MPD cost growth from consuming the investments we need in our communities.

Abdul El-Sayed was outspent 9-to-1 by AIPAC and corporate Super PACs in the most expensive Senate Democratic primary of all time. Last night, he proved that organized people can beat organized money.

A Virginia developer wants to redevelop the old Star Tribune printing plan into a data center in North Loop. This is on a 13-acre site by the river. This is exactly why CM @aurinmpls.bsky.social & I authored a data center moratorium & we were told to not worry. 1/ www.startribune.com/data-center-...

Data center developer signs deal to buy Minnesota Star Tribune’s shuttered North Loop printing plant

The 13-acre property is one of downtown Minneapolis’ last large industrial sites.

yvette hoffman on strib reporting that david wellstone was mutual friend who visited her husband john in the ICU after he was shot by vance boelter to ask for angie craig's endorsement (yvette was also shot) "We have certainly learned who true friends are and who are liars."

it was confirmed via a leak to the star tribune that david wellstone was the mutual friend sent to visit john hoffman on angie craig's behalf to ask for his endorsement, which feels like it was done by her campaign just so wellstone could deny the story
