I found this oddly comforting after a day spent rewriting. From Michael Cunningham's new memoir Unsayable: A Life in Writing: "Writers always get things at least a little bit wrong. Or, more accurately, writers' sense of getting things right seldom feels entirely right to anyone but us."

Ya know, some of us care about nature, eat healthfully, believe in the fact-based (and spiritual!) benefits of exercise, avoid fast food and are skeptical of Big Pharma while *also* believing in science! And we can do all this without embracing dangerous, destructive anti-reality bullshit.

A lot of people in public health believe that MAHA is “nothing more than a subversive anti-vaccine, anti-science syndicate,” but the movement is an opportunity that the public-health sector “cannot afford to squander,” Craig Spencer argues:

Quick thinking having a tablecloth handy. I didn’t even notice the twitching from that dead robot.

the odyssey discourse is a beautiful perfect window into right wing culture war psychosis. they went from hysterial racist mania over a character that’s on screen for 5 minutes to claiming there’s a massive conspiracy to fake ticket sales. this is just what they do for everything now. they’re insane

BREAKING: The Odyssey is FAKING ticket sales by buying up theaters/seats (Fraud) to make the movie look like a success (already $400 million in the hole) moviegoers are reporting having to take terrible seats (because full) but when they show up the theaters are mostly empty.

"Yeah, Christopher Nolan made a billion dollars with a film about a scientist being sad, but I really think I can get people to skip his movie where Matt Damon fights monsters with a sword," - the finest minds on the internet.

THE ODYSSEY's instantly, predictably enormous success is Exhibit #32176 that the right wing's grievance-farming operation is not some great American cultural shift. Most people don't give a shit about their petty crusades.

It’s worth noting that Taco Bell identified the source before the FDA did, and promptly pulled it from their stores. The FDA didn’t even name the source until Taylor Farms outed themselves, and hasn’t issued a recall. Basically, Taco Bell is now a more reliable authority than the FDA.

Taylor Farms, which supplies major fast food and grocery chains, was identified as the possible source of the cyclosporiasis outbreak Thursday.

Saddened to hear my good friend the Finger Taker has passed away. I never agreed with him about amputating people's fingers in his dungeon, but I'll always remember the collegial good times, and most of all his great sense of humor. What laughs we had. Condolences to Ginny and his whole family.
