I have finished alllll my assessment for this term, and all through of my inboxes are at zero. Nobody move a muscle. I want to enjoy this feeling for the whole 32 seconds it lasts for. 😥😅

Holy shit. I had no idea about any of this. I did think it was strange there seemed to be so little promotion of who she was as a person. But I guess this explains it.

In her 2002 autobiography, she “writes of the apparent ‘animalistic sex techniques’ of Black people, and what she describes as their ‘distinctive smell’. She describes working with a Black man in a past performance work, with lingering attention paid to her descriptions of his lips and genitals.”

I wish the clothing guy hadn't made that post about Dolly it feels very - she dressed like a tramp but I liked her. I wish he'd featured some of her incredible outfits and spoke about her understanding of fashion, camp, and gender performance instead. They're such a big part of her power.

One of my favorite things about Dolly Parton is that she recognized structural problems require structural solutions. Kids aren't reading? Let's put books in their hands during their crucial developmental years. Social change requires joy AND actionable solutions, and she embodied that.

Instead of lowering flags to half mast for Dolly, they should reinstate vaccine mandates. They should invest in public health. They should walk back discriminatory LGBTQ+ policies. They should stop banning books and fund libraries. That’s how you honour her legacy.

Oh my god. That footage out of Nepal is horrific. You see people running for their lives and not making it. Be mindful of that if you're going to watch the clips. I cannot imagine the terror of the survivors right now. The death toll is going to be huge.

I never realised that Dolly Parton couldn’t have children because of endometriosis. And that she was public about that in the 70’s and 80’s, when there was even more stigma and shame around infertility and menstruation than there is today.

We’re going to hear about how everyone loved Dolly, and that feels true. But it’s good to remember, and to her credit, that she was attacked for her AIDS activism, her vaccine advocacy, her LGBTQ+ support and even, more recently, for her reading initiatives. She ALWAYS stood firm when it mattered.
