Are people on Bluesky aware that a Black man was found hanging from a tree in Raleigh NC yesterday afternoon, near the CaribMask Carnival. Making this the sixth or seventh Black person found hung this year. Also? Black. People. Do. Not. Hang. Themselves. From. Trees.

Chicago needs 15 million new cops to fund 15 million new NASCAR races. We're turning Lake Michigan into the first fully aquatic data center. Every kindergarten will be equipped with ToddlerSpotter. It's not ShotSpotter! It's better—SWAT will be alerted every time naptime needs to be enforced

You can and should point out that police killing people daily is the "norm" in America. But that doesn't mean you *accept* the normalization of this violence and the way some people rush to smugly point these things out contributes to collective fatigue. Your horror has been stolen from you.

So ICE, like police officers, basically get to execute people, say some nonsense about feeling in danger, and then completely get away with executing people

What's the deal with the potential proposed transfer of ownership of Chicago's parking meter system to Stonepeak, a company profiting from Omni Air International ICE deportation flights? @djbyrnes1.bsky.social breaks down the latest. Finance committee meets again on Monday, July 13:

A. People in DC did not know those fascists were planning to march. B. They marched for 15 minutes and then turned tail. C. People in DC would have been out there had they known they would be there. D. Do people know how people in DC (who actually live in the city) roll?

Happy 4th of July from the ICE facility in Broadview, IL, where ~2 hrs ago a Fed fired pepper balls from inside his blacked out SUV, striking an older protester in the torso. Others rendered aid, quickly wiping the irritants off them and getting them a fresh shirt before taking them to the hospital.

Photo of a camera’s back screen, showing a protester wiping pepper ball irritants off another’s shirt. (I did not have capacity to quickly upload in the field.)

Very good column, worth reading. The fundamental point is very important: we’re going through something right now where, on the other side of it, whatever happens, we can’t be back where we started. The difficulty is convincing enough Americans that this is the case to act accordingly.

This may be @jamellebouie.net 's best column ever, which is really saying something. Here's a gift link www.nytimes.com/2026/06/03/o...

We will not beat back repressive power with a bunch of fragmented “leftists,” writes William C. Anderson in “Another way out.” Instead, we can look to what political prisoner Russell Maroon Shoatz called “the mosaic” to break free from orthodoxy & bring our politics to life.

We need a mosaic movement, not fragmented ‘leftism'

Instead of a call for resentment-filled “unity” or traditional fronts, we can look to what Russell Maroon Shoatz called “the mosaic”

"The effort comes in response to longstanding criticism that Harvard’s faculty leans overwhelmingly liberal." Golly, I wonder why faculties tend to be overwhelmingly liberal? Are liberals more drawn to teaching? Have conservatives been engaged in a long war on science and knowledge? WHO KNOWS?

Sad to see Hayek from 1949 proved wrong in 2026: “I have yet to come across a single instance where such a scientific pseudo-reputation has been bestowed for political reason on a scholar of more conservative leanings.” www.thecrimson.com/article/2026...

“It is beneath my dignity to let myself be run over by any trolley, and particularly this trolley, burdened as it is by a cape and a stupid hat.” I wrote for Defector about boycotting Harry Potter, the ‘safe’, kindly face of anti-trans politics: defector.com/its-time-to-...

HBO’s new Harry Potter TV series is premiering this Christmas Day. Under current plans, it will last at least a decade. The trailer looks like the original films were run through an AI generator, but ...
