I think that not only is this good politics, but the stability of American society depends on it. Liberal American normies are out for blood, but *everyone* is in an anti-system mood. If we don't feed that beast some sacrifices, it'll find someone who can, and those sacrifices will be innocent.

Chaperoning a preschool trip to the aquarium and one of the other dads who is vaguely familiar with what I do comes up to me and goes “man I sure hope we get some Nuremberg-style trials at the end of all this”

Republicans want to rewrite the history of COVID just like they want to rewrite the history of January 6th and the ongoing reality of climate change. They refuse to accept that they or their ideas could be the villain of the story. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026...

Anthony Fauci’s high-profile Senate hearing: what we learned

Six years on from Covid crisis, Republicans still politicizing science – and Fauci remains a political punching bag

Again, if there's anybody I'd like to say I was wrong to be pessimistic to, it's Wikler. People joke about "vote harder" but WisDems actually voted harder and broke a very strong right wing powergrab over many cycles.

Which means that ultimately your trust in Bob is a trust in [big tech company], and your entire business, now that it has become unknowable to you, is effectively owned by [big tech company].

Suppose someone shows up at your office. Let's call him Bob. You don't know anything about Bob except that they're very smart and very fast, and they came from [big tech company]. They're not an employee, they're not accountable for any of the work they do, but they are super efficient at that work.

Imagine if you mailed the IRS a check to pay your taxes, but they left their mail unopened for years and then arrested you for failure to pay taxes. That’s effectively what ICE is doing to increasing numbers of people now; people out of status only because of GOVERNMENT delay.

To be clear this is against state and local law, and contributes to the ongoing impression that in the US, there is no civilian control of the police. Whoever is nominally elected or apointed to head the paramilitary forces of your locality, they can't or won't stop this. Which would be worse?

We received a firsthand report of ICE taking someone from downtown Chicago this morning during a routine immigration check-in at 101 W. Ida B Wells. In addition to street and court arrests, ICE has been taking people from immigration check-in appointments since before Operation Midway Blitz.

Beginning to thing the difference between left*-authoritarian and fascist regimes is that the Soviets were actually capable or or willing to enforce message discipline on their partisans. These people have no juice. *Not that many of them were/are especially ideologically left, etc.

WELKER: Is America backing away from a larger attack bc our stockpile has been depleted? WALTZ: We have to take a step back. A lot of our stockpiles were depleted because of Biden WELKER: But you acknowledge they're depleted? WALTZ: No. And the people leaking this nonsense deserve to be in jail

The WHCA goes on annually because it celebrates everything corporate media adores: money, fame, glamor, access, networking, marking oneself part of the in-group, being seen with celebrities, patting itself on the back. There'll never not be a dinner and it'll never not be a betrayal of journalism.

Which is your favorite, the war crimes in the pointless war, the high gas prices, the masked government thugs executing brown people in the streets, the dismantling of higher education, the explosive diarrhea, the measles outbreak, or the salmonella recall? Tough call, I know!

(to the parishioners in front of me, more sternly) that aside, don’t let these click merchants distract you from the work, brothers, sisters, non-misses and non-misters. We’re still a small church. Hit them doors, be sweeties.

Praying for all my e-friends getting perturbed over a criticism of DSA’s chances from a [checks notes] former Reagan OPL staffer. May these tender souls recognize “we got em on the run!” moments when You give them to us, O Lord.

We once had a mayor of a small town write 'OBAMA 08' in "logs" (They were full ass trees cut up, he was a competitive log thrower/lumberjack dude) and people drove to see it lol.

So this is easy to make fun of, har har, red string, etc, but this is the preliminary step to banning these organizations as FTOs. It's all EOs, under existing law, and it'd be up to whatever federal judge they hand-pick to call bullshit. Even if it's turned back, the timing could ratfuck a lot.

The Trump administration issued a report alleging that a multi-decade Cuban influence campaign in the U.S. has had “remarkable success” in infiltrating the government, backing “left-wing terrorism on American soil” and turning “America against itself.”

8. As long as trans people have an opposition party standing in unity against anti-trans policies, every ban, remains reversible. But if enough Dems see transphobia as acceptable, then trans rights could be eroded for a generation, with no mechanism left to reverse the losses, similar to UK Labour.

The craziest shit for me is that there's an audio recording of Donald Trump asking for Georgia officials to "find votes" in 2020 and he's running now. How is that not instantly disqualifying? We HEARD him. Not Meadows. Not Giuliani. How is asking officials for votes (with proof) not instant jail?

Maybe that's a failure of the American public to stay maximally informed on civics but also it just might be that all this shit is a lot to keep track of and is actually deliberately *designed* to be confusing in order to let special interests and power brokers operate outside of accountability?
