A certain AAA studio told employees that their internal gen AI was trained only on local data, but whenever said employees tried to generate an image of a woman holding a gun, it generated Lara Croft. The studio was not Crystal Dynamics, and had never worked on the Tomb Raider IP in any capacity.

I just want to mention: Even if your AI somehow runs locally and you think it's okay, it's still using trained data from a pre-existing dataset which is still full of stolen work. The sheer amount of data gen AI needs is in the hundreds of thousands, you can only get that by scraping

might be common knowledge, but some people block channels that use AI in thumbnails. youtube has an option to "never recommend this channel again" and i only ever use it when a channel's thumbnails are all AI i hope someone can convey to aspiring youtubers that it'd be good to grow out of this ASAP

I also wish these guys would stop using AI thumbnails particularly when they aren’t playing an SEO game at all

Scientists have captured the highest definition image of the surface of the sun to date, while testing a telescope. The images reveal swirling hot plasma that could help explain how the sun stores and releases energy.

Writers, stop using Gen AI products. In addition to the many other reasons it sucks (tech based on theft, tool of fascism, makes your brain soft) if you are found out, companies that might've wanted to republish you internationally, adapt for film/TV, etc., will label you a lawsuit risk & walk away.

More info: "The problem: publishers and movie companies may not be able to register copyright and come away with a clear title chain if there are certain AI elements in the mix. That’s because AI-aided copy is an amalgamation of many other copyrighted works." deadline.com/2026/07/ai-q...

150,000 marched yesterday in London for trans rights. Opened the Sky News app. Scrolled and scrolled. Nothing. BBC News app. Nothing. Guardian app. Nothing. This is what actual silencing looks like.

a lot more cars in the apt parking lots than usual. people are staying home due to the smoke. it was clear yesterday but the whims of the wind brought the pollution back~

Here’s a PSA for people like me who were raised not to waste food (perhaps rather aggressively) we are now dealing with an unreliable food safety system in the US. If something tastes weird or funny or off IN ANY WAY just throw it away.

the sky is a uniform gray-orange and there's a blue haze. the sunlight is orange and muted. Canadian fire season again. stay safe, all. don't breathe your vitamins and minerals

The thing about being ruled by a gerontocracy is that cohort mortality is a probability density, meaning all these fuckers start dying around the same time -- in clusters. The same Weibull Distribution "bathtub curve" explains why batches of light bulbs and hard drives all die in the same month.

A line graph plotting the probability density function of a Weibull distribution over time. The horizontal axis represents elapsed time, and the vertical axis represents the probability of failure. The curve models a wear-out scenario where the shape parameter is greater than one.At the beginning of the timeline, the line starts near zero, indicating a very low risk of early failure. It remains low and relatively flat across the initial and middle stages of life. As time advances toward the right, the line curves sharply upward (called the "bathtub curve" because it resembles the back of a bathtub. It forms a steep, narrow peak that represents a concentrated cluster of failures near the end of the maximum lifespan. After reaching this maximum peak, the curve plunges rapidly back down to zero, indicating that nearly all subjects in the population have failed.
