22. This thread is neither expose nor astroturfed recruiting pitch. But. If you like libraries, there are some phenomenal libraries, including at least one which is handled something like the restricted section of the library in the Harry Potter books. Dangerous, cursed tomes, escorted access only.

8. The bees! Aaahhhhh, not the bees! Well, wasps this time. Some wasps at an NNSA production site were building nests with contaminated material from an old building, leading to several nests of Fallout-esque rad-wasps. Any reports that DOE is breeding an army of mutant wasp-men are hearsay.

19. Another wildlife one. There is a particular building that has the triple whammy of beryllium, uranium and asbestos contamination, and also a leak in the roof. The leak is not repairable because of the contamination, but it also lets mice and birds in. Which have to be handled as contaminated.

Let's address the problems you mention, rather than blaming them on AI: - Decarbonize electricity - Build physical and digital public libraries - Strengthen & enforce environmental regulations - Ditto financial regulations Bonus: it applies to all industries, not just computing ! Good is possible.

I’m seeing articles saying “America’s far left is in ascendance.” It’s vital to remember America’s far left is pretty close to the rest of the world’s center. Don’t be distracted by the deeply flawed L/R binary mind trap. Focus on the proven character, qualities & positions of the candidates.

Alabama passed tough immigration laws in 2011. It devastated their agriculture sector. Farmers couldn't find workers for their fields and the ones they did find, quit because the work was too hard for the pay. Let these morons build a wall around themselves.

Tuberville: "If we don't straighten out this country's voting and immigration system, we're not gonna make it. It's gonna be over. I'm gonna go back to Alabama and hey, we might build a 30-foot wall around our state."

Dying at the right-wing activists that (1) held a call with Todd Blanche in which Blanche made a lot of anti-abortion promises, (2) said "uh this is off the record" like doing so would magically ward off journalists, and then (3) UPLOADED IT TO THEIR YOUTUBE CHANNEL www.politico.com/news/2026/08...

The acting attorney general’s conversation with Trump appears to have taken place just hours after the president publicly mused about pulling Blanche’s nomination and instead trying to push through a fund that could be used to compensate Jan. 6 rioters and others who claim to have been persecuted by the Biden administration.
Announcements at the beginning and end of the Intercessors for America call stated that it was “not intended for press purposes.” A speaker told attendees that the call was “not on the record” and directed any journalists on the line to hang up.
POLITICO was not on the call on Thursday when it took place and did not agree to any limits on reporting. Audio of the session was posted on YouTube by Intercessors for America, which calls itself “the largest national prayer ministry dedicated to praying for our government and leaders.”
As of Monday, the recording remained publicly accessible.

El-Sayed: "Once a government agency like ICE is told it has impunity to do the worst things and violate the highest law of the land, which is the Constitution itself, I don't think you can reform or retrain. I think we need to start from scratch ... I think we need to abolish it."

China (and before it, Japan) is similar but on an even more behemoth scale. You cannot have a world economy where everyone runs trade surpluses, and no one has discovered a method of development that *doesn't* stem from export booms.
