Ok, so we need someone beloved of elderly south coast racists to stand against him.
In Blaenau Gwent, 48.6% of children are in income deprivation. It is about 40% in Merthyr, Denbighshire, Neath Port Talbot, Torfaen, Newport, Cardiff, Wrexham, Swansea and Caerphilly. You read our special report in the newsletter: willhaywardwales.substack.com/p/the-hardes...

As you boil in the heat, never forget that all those people who for decades have deliberately and maliciously disrupted efforts to tackle climate change are probably sitting comfortable in their large air conditioned houses. Houses funded on the back of lies/misinformation they helped propagate.
Such good news. Human beings are capable of magical and wonderful things. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Seeing the Peter Serafinowicz Harry Potter announcement just made me think, once again, about this excellent James Acaster bit from Off Menu.
Hey, UK acting people, it would be great if you just came out and said you were totally cool with transphobia instead of making us all wait for the slow trickle of casting announcements for projects with the very openly transphobic lady to know that you suck.
Labour MS Shav Taj gives passionate speech in the Senedd in response to Reform’s rhetoric on immigrants.
I'm attending a digital humanities event in Montreal. There was a keynote on AI and something about the talk made me wonder if it had been written by Claude. I said as much in the Q&A. As I posed the question, the speaker shifted, looking slightly uncomfortable. What he said next shocked the room +
Kids in schoolyards across Britain will be trading mp4 rips of tiktoks over local mesh networks.
> Internet destroyed as all content is migrated to massive social media sites. > Ban kids from using those same social media sites. I taught myself HTML at 11 years old thanks to Neopets, and it's a skill I still use in my professional work. Kids have nowhere online to hang out and learn now.
Feels like a lot of STEM guys believed coding was the hardest thing a human could do, and assumed that once somebody invented an AI that can code, it would follow naturally that the AI can do all of the lesser non-coding things that other dumber people were doing

Well holy crap. Erin Brockovich (yes, the same one the led the Hinkley, CA toxic groundwater lawsuit in ‘93) launched a website tracking AI data centers across the US and the ecological impacts to the environment and drinking water. MN is riddled with them. www.brockovichdatacenter.com
As an anthropologist, I endorse this message!
I well recall the online debates where the majority of debaters opined that zero traffic deaths is an utopian goal and would require methods that would kill Helsinki, if not bring about totalitarian communism
“Helsinki hasn’t registered a single traffic-related fatality in the past year…Citing data that shows the risk of pedestrian fatality is cut in half by reducing a car’s speed from 40 to 30km/hr, city officials imposed the lower limit in most of Helsinki’s residential areas and city center in 2021.”
Did work experience at a local museum when I was young, and they constantly had people asking them if stuff was important/valuable, which they took in good humour because people were engaged, but virtually always the answer was "No, but that's good, because otherwise you'd have stolen antiquities."
This story, insofar as it deals with the National Railway Museum, is utterly absurd. If you rock up to a museum event expecting to dump a load of stuff on the staff, and are then surprised to be politely refused, then you clearly have no idea what museums are for. www.cityam.com/a-state-of-t...
“Someone with a 1-hr car commute needs to earn 40% more to be as happy as someone with a short walk to work. On the other hand, if someone shifts from a long commute to a walk, their happiness increases as much as if they’d fallen in love.” #CityMakingMath 50 reasons for more walkable streets.

It's almost like we are genuinely different nations with genuinely different priorities and cultures.
"More British" is mostly now a liberal left-leaning pro-diversity Remain-coded identity in English cities (held by graduates, liberals, ethnic and faith minorities, Londoners) but it is more often a socally conservative right-leaning Leave-coded identity in Scotland and in Wales!
