a thing about these “priorities” is that they cannot be achieved without comprehensive Supreme Court reform, which means THAT is your actual priority
Klein asks Allen what liberals should prioritize if they win the trifecta in 2028. Allen suggests the following: 1) Putting an end to Citizens United; 2) Creation of national service; 3) Ending gerrymandering
26. The best Talking Heads song without a member of the Talking Heads in it is, obviously, Brian Eno's "King's Lead Hat" but Robert Fripp's "Under Heavy Manners" is the best with the actual David Byrne. www.youtube.com/watch?v=i_0B...

If there’s one thing I believe in my life, it’s that one should do everything they can not to inconvience another person, particularly a stranger. It’s my very strongly held belief that if everyone believed–and this is correct–that they are the least important person in the world, then the world would get along much better. […]

I disagree slightly here. I don't think Klein is into this stuff, I think he values what he sees as civility and collegiality with far-right racists as fellow "intellectuals" more than he does having values, and that effectively makes him a useful idiot for promoting their views.
I think that it is insulting to everyone including Ezra Klein to continue pretending that he's this idiot child with the memory of a goldfish and start accepting him for who he is- a guy who's into this stuff but also wants to be liked by everyone
34. Frank Zappa is often right about things. The problem is he's a complete asshole about it.
27. If you ever need evidence about how much straight guys think about penises, I give you the complete Frank Zappa catalog.
22. The later Zappa bands were often filled with younger musicians who were fans first or hired guns. Zappa was a shitty, demanding boss. The vibes were always off. The "fun" is forced and sometimes cruel. Compare the later Halloween shows to the early ones. Night and day.
13. "Freak Out!" is also good because it contains a good mix: satirical hard rock, doo wop parodies, sound collages, a genuine blues rock protest song (that he would never duplicate again). A bit of everything.
12. Where do you start with Frank Zappa? "Hot Rats" all the way. All instrumental, the only vocal is Captain Beefheart's righteous "Willie The Pimp." "Peaches En Regalia" is, by his own admission, the only thing he wrote that nobody had a bad thing to say about. The production is AMAZING.
1. We can argue about "best" all day long, but Frank's Roxy era band is the most talented collection of musicians in rock history. George Duke was the third vocalist on the call sheet. Chester Thompson was one of two drummers. All three Fowler Brothers! RUTH FUCKING UNDERWOOD!

Dear new Apple CEO, You could do a lot worse than relaunch the iPod as a budget-friendly (under $400, you can do it! ) delivery system for serious music fans. Two T of storage, ability to play FLACs, real headphone jack. You have no idea the goodwill this would generate.
Wait, Shermer wrote a book called "Truth"? And here I thought skepticism was about the weight of evidence. And then the contents look like both-sides centrist bullshit.
The new mainline IDSG is now available a few days in advance for patrons. @danielharper.bsky.social & I go through some astonishing conversations that Michael Shermer had with various people including Douglas Murray. www.patreon.com/posts/156467...

Gonna spend the next two years spamming every elected Dem about the concept of "damnatio memoriae." Chisel his name off every inscription. Build over the various Trump Towers like they're Nero's Golden House. Remove him from physical memory, not to forget but as a sign of disrespect to the man.
The seven-member body, whose ranks are composed of Trump appointees, was expected to approve the arch. The proposed monument strongly resembles Paris' Arc de Triomphe, but almost 100 feet taller. n.pr/3O5czfK

I think it's obvious that the problem is they've hired the wrong Jon Taylor from the internet's nerd spheres. We have a solution ready for the Neopet people when they are ready to hear it.
I've joked with some folks before that the implosion of the Neopets RPG is their chance to step up and take a shot at it, but it seems like there really IS an opening now since John Taylor of Geekify has been sent to whatever the Neopets equivalent of the Phantom Zone is

which goes to something i always say: elections aren't just competitions over who can meet the criteria voters have - they're debates about what those criteria *should be*
production of The Muppet Show should not be dependent on petty vulgarities like “ratings” or “revenue.” it should be preserved as a vital function of american culture. it should have a taxpayer-funded budget rivaling the CIA
