I’m seeing a lot of posts about talking to your sons in light of the Cornell article. And yes. Talk to your sons. Here are some things you should say, based on anti-violence research about what they need to hear:

Today was slightly alarming. This afternoon I couldn't find our gorgeous, skittish indoor cat Lily (who we rehomed a few months ago, and she's only been outside once since, where she panicked and hid in various neighbours' yards for a day). She'd gotten outside, but turned up at the front door.

Yep. warmth, politeness & de-escalating skills are survival mechanisms. then you don’t get taken as seriously. But if you are colder, you get taken seriously but are considered to be lacking interpersonal skills. And if you just live life without centering any men, some get upset, persistent & scary

Women actively hide it from you to protect ourselves. We play nice to keep men from imploding and we do it right in front of you without you ever knowing. starting as children, we hide the damage that men do, and learn to manage everyone's feelings, to stay safe. this is why we need your help 💛

The raw visceral hatred some men have for women, at least women who step out of line, is shocking. I know it sounds like some sorta "one of the good ones" ploy but I am genuinely taken aback when I see it because I think: I had a fairly normal socialisation as a man in the west, how did I miss this?
