Lawyering, contracting, research funding. Formerly of universities, now Senior Contracts Manager at a funder. Photos of my cats and garden.

If I wanted to protect the most prestigious and highly paid jobs for the social groups who usually hold them I'd probably design an education system that discouraged poorer children from studying the entry qualifications for these jobs as early as possible..

I don’t know how to deal with this. Alt: Photo shows Binface in full regalia including helmet and cloak. He stands in a triangle formation on the factory floor, apparently talking to two workers who look at him with bemused expressions. All three are wearing high viz vests.

Just watched ET for possibly the first time since its original release. Lots of things happening that you don’t really pick up on as a kid. But the thing that really annoyed me was how when he went out to the shed several hours later the moon was in exactly the same place.

Everyone coming on my feed and explaining to me that all is lost, I note what I have noted before, that there are no Negro Spirituals entitled, “Welp, I Guess It All Sucks and I Am Giving Up.”

Congrats to Bhattacharya on his “anti-woke” crusade! In 2025, the no. of investigators funded by NIH fell for the 1st time in a decade—a 4% fall in research grant PIs, a 10% fall in fellowship recipients 🚨There was a 10% fall in Black research grant PIs & a 41% fall in Black fellows ja.ma/4vnpzMY

In 2025, the number of investigators funded by the National Institutes of Health (#NIH) declined for the first time in a decade, with a 4% reduction in research grant principal investigators and a 10% decline in fellowship recipients.

Reductions were most pronounced among investigators from groups historically underrepresented in science, including a 10% decline in Black research grant PIs and a 41% decline in Black fellows.

Hispanic investigators and fellows also experienced notable declines. These trends may have implications for the future diversity and capacity of the US biomedical research workforce.

My privilege to share some lovely stories from the science community about what Sam Neill's timeless performance as Dr. Alan Grant in Jurassic Park meant to them—and why it will continue to inspire kids to chase their own discoveries for years to come.

Sam Neill Inspired a Generation of Scientists

The actor, who died at age 78 on Monday, embodied a passionate approach to research and positive masculinity in his role as paleontologist Alan Grant in the 1993 blockbuster Jurassic Park.

Kind of annoying that nowhere in this article does it mention who is funding this. Given that it’s mainly funded by the MRC not really sure why the article focuses so much on commercially sponsored clinical trials. https://www.ft.com/content/e45a07e4-8c63-4505-99b9-8dc24a811444?shareType=nongift
