According to Industrial Loght & Magic modeler John Goodson, the Enterprise-A filming miniature was in bad shape after its use by VFX vendor Associates & Ferren for STAR TREK V: THE FINAL FRONTIER: "That was one of the most beautiful ships that we've ever worked with. But we opened up the crate, and much to our dismay, two things had happened. One, the wiring umbilical, which was about two inches in diameter, solid, with all the various wiring that went into the internal neons, the blinking lights, all the internal electronic stuff, had just been hacked off right at the side of the ship. So there was that. And then the other thing was, the entire bottom of the saucer had been spray-painted flat white. So all that beautiful paint had just been obliterated [note: though ILM themselves used dulling sprays, these only added a transparent layer to tone down the gleam of the original paint job, and did not replace it]. Iโm a librarian and same. The only change is that I now have to sift through pages of AI slop to find real information when doing research.
Iโm a radiologist. By now AI should have replaced me. As it turns out AI has had a minimal impact and Iโm busier than ever using my actual intelligence to interpret diagnostic images. So much hype and so little impact.

A retired friend was remembering when there were departmental secretaries at universities who basically project managed the departments. You could give them handwritten documents, and they would type them up. He was shocked when I said it didn't work like that for female academics.

There's a really lovely coffee hatch between our hotel and the supermarket which I pop into run by a young Portuguese man who sounds just like Hervรฉ Villechaize. I only feel slightly guilty for giving my name as Mr Scaramanga so he calls it out when my Americano is ready.

Badenoch's two biggest flaws are that she's nowhere near as smart as she thinks she is and is incapable of admitting error. Both well illustrated by this fiasco.

A very difficult night and demoralising for air defenders in Kyiv. With no defensive missiles, the take down rate of Russia's missiles was 0% 24 ballistic (inc N Korean) and 4 Onyx missiles. All 28 hit the capital. Of 115 drones, 98 were stopped = 85.2% #SaveUkraine

I have, of course, asked ChatGPT: "Yes, many people could still get through an entire workday without AI. Until very recently, everyone did. It might be slower or require different tools, but many jobs can still be done."
