As a game dev: hell yes, let’s go
something horrifying has come to me in a vision
Our branch secretary Duncan wrote about the limits of legalism and why organising is the way forward for workers, have a read: utaw.tech/news/anti-le...
“Can my boss do [bad thing]?” is a question often asked by workers to their union reps. It’s an important question – one of our tasks as a union is to ensure we understand our rights as workers. It should be rephrased though, because people and organisations can and do breach workers rights and behave in all sorts of ways they shouldn’t. The real question is “what can we do when my boss does [bad thing]?”. A right is as good as our ability to enforce it.

if flatmate does not arrive for board games asap i am gonna snooze
The fact that ai art and writing programs are built on stolen work really seems to be fading from the discussion even amongst artists and writers, which is a bit shit.
ANTHROPIC: Our son loves humanity and for the low price of trillions and trillions of dollars will usher in an era of unprecedented peace and prosperity! OPENAI: Our horrible oafish son is hacking web sites without our permission. ANTHROPIC: (eyes narrowing) Our son is also evil
This is just a glimpse of what's to come without immediate action. It’s time to treat Scotland's wildfire risk as the national emergency it is. That means investing in prevention, early warning systems, and restoring the natural habitats that make our landscapes more resilient.
Devastating images show aftermath of wildfires that ripped through Cairngorms
Dramatic pictures of the charred landscape taken by those fighting the fire have highlighted the scale of the damage caused by the inferno.

I think us being forced out of the country is a colossal failure of the UK legal and immigration system when our case is so hotly contested. It is mind boggling to me there is no mechanism to keep people in the country temporarily under circumstances such as this.
In October last year I was fired by Rockstar Games in what we believe was a union busting move. We lost our home. We lost 2 jobs with my partner being forced to resign. We lost a community. Most importantly however we had to leave our two dogs behind, one of which will never return.
Back in October, Rockstar Games fired 34 employees for alleged gross misconduct. The severity of these firings could have spelled the end for a burgeoning union effort that was underway, but it didn't. In fact, the union is now *bigger* than it's ever been before. www.youtube.com/watch?v=ym4z...
so proud of Nestor (and the whole of Committee 2.0)! the toughest baddies in the industry
For the first time since I started reporting on this story nine months ago, I've now also interviewed a current employee of Rockstar on camera. Nestor Uriarte is a union rep at R* North and we spoke about how it feels holding that position given what happened to the other union members before him.
Abbie is one of the sweetest dogs I've ever met. I'm so sad she won't be able to go home.
Not only has Will's partner been forced to return to Australia as well, but their two dogs have been left stranded in Edinburgh for several months. Tragically, their older dog's health has since deteriorated. She will no longer be able to make it back to Melbourne to be reunited with her family.

if all your energy goes into just worrying or keeping up, you are unable to actually DO anything, both to help said causes or to even function day-to-day. if you need to refocus your effort on just your immediate life so you CAN help again, do that. (+)
There are ways to trim your videogame development budget, and then there are *ways* to trim your videogame development budget.
turns out it actually sucks to be a ‘David’ in a ‘David and Goliath’ type situation
🌋 Monday midday update on the Salisbury Crags fire from from Holyrood Park managers at HES: “As a precaution, Queen’s Drive and the Galloping Glen remain closed while the @scottishfirerescue.bsky.social continues to assess the area." [1/6] 📸 Photos from Sunday evening shared by subscriber Heather.
Surely this is a national emergency when we're having this many wildfires, this often

Twice a year, Hawai'i experiences a strange moment where the sun appears to be exactly overhead & anything that is completely vertical casts no shadow. Let's learn about Lāhainā Noon, subsolar points & 'Kau ka lā i ka lolo', meaning "the sun rests on the brains."
Thinking about why women might not want to use a product that has forced itself into every software interface to confidently shout things that are wrong
One of the more misogynistic takes currently trending in the AI policy space is "women use less AI than men because they have less tech literacy" Ok but have you considered that women use less AI than men because we have more tech literacy?
I really hate living in the apocalypse timeline. Had to keep my windows closed all night to keep the smoke out. This is just one of numerous wildfires in the park over the last few years. I feel devastated thinking about the habitat loss.
