Hopeful

Lockdowns showed that states can pour massive resources into making the politically impossible happen quickly, the public will accept huge changes if they understand why they're needed, and that we should listen to scientists. Something to remember when it comes to action on climate change.

One day you or I may need to cross a border in desperation like this and, if and when we do, every one of us would hope to be treated, and indeed discussed, with more dignity and respect than these people, rather than dehumanised and hated for our misfortune.

This has really pissed me off, if you're in the area and can afford it go and give the cafe owner some money to help fund the kids meals. And if he refuses buy yourself a nice coffee and tip him as much as you can. Fuck Reform taking food from kids in need. www.mirror.co.uk/news/politic...

The result in the UK is a country that now keeps hundreds of political prisoners, a country in which you can get six months in jail for marching slowly down the street. Protest here is acceptable as long as it’s useless. Let the people have their say, but only if we can’t hear them.

At astonishing speed, our rights are being cancelled, worldwide. In the UK, the prosecution of Rajiv Menon KC is the latest example of blatant authoritarianism. Why? Because this is what billionaires and corporations demand. This week's column. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

Over at my newsletter, I wrote about the Trump administration's ongoing efforts to fix (read: insert) "bias" in AI chatbots. And did I mention people are now consulting the bots when trying to figure out how to vote? www.readtpa.com/p/trusting-c...

Trusting Chatbots with Our Ballots (At the Worst Possible Moment)

Voters are letting chatbots help fill out their ballots. The Trump administration has spent a year making sure it controls what the chatbots say.

How are things in Belfast? Are the people with Legitimate Concerns about paedophilia attacking unionist politicians’ homes in response to the Donaldson verdict? They aren’t? How strange. Their Concerns seemed so Legitimate when they were burning foreigners out of their homes a few weeks back.

The Court of Appeal judgement on Palestine Action is frankly bonkers. It says PA is not "a direct action civil disobedience protest group like the suffragettes operating transparently in the open." Right: the arson, bombings, slashings etc were all planned in open meetings in Parliament Square 🙄🧵
