Today in @thenation.com: a harrowing piece written from inside the Dilley ICE detention center by Maryam Tahmasebi, a green card holder who's been locked up along with her husband and son for months despite none of them committing any crime. www.thenation.com/article/soci...

One Woman’s Message From the Hell of ICE Detention

My husband, son, and I have been locked up for months—despite being permanent residents with no criminal record. It is an unendurable, unending nightmare.

@mayorq.bsky.social removing our bike lanes would set KC back years. I am now 100% blind in my right eye & I rely upon the Gillham Cycle Track as my one safe north south route. There are so few routes that are multiple miles long & protected. Let's not go back, let's continue to progress forward

Two of the plans released for the downtown Royals stadium involve "reclaiming vehicular capacity" on streets with protected bike lanes, and removing crosswalks. Absolutely ridiculous, and dangerous. bikewalkkc.org/blog/2026/07...

I chatted with Laura about these things at How The Light Gets In in June, and I strongly recommend heeding what she has to say about them. She provides a deeply informed and considered voice on these subjects, of the kind we hear too little from.

The UK countryside is full of interdimensional portals. You just have to know where to look. I've decided to make a thread here of some of the best ones I've found on walks. 1. JRR Tolkien's Psychedelic Lime Kiln.

I can never resist getting inside an old lime kiln. This one was near Newton Abbott. The view up through the hole in the top of it to the overhanging trees on the ledge above is, I have to assume, even better than listening to the second Doors album on acid.

Never forget that they had to spend trillions of dollars, build massive data centers, consume millions of galloons of water and insane amounts of electricity, just to kind of do what you can do better with your imagination and a cup of coffee. That's how envious they are of what you can do.

The prize for being the richest person in the world at the end of each calendar year should be 100% confiscation of all assets and living out the rest of your life in a dungeon. Good healthy reverse-incentive.
