"It’s not a different opinion. It’s straight up bigotry ... that we wouldn’t accept or hand wave away if it were targeted towards any other group." Every cis person who follows me for WNBA content better read this. Pay for a sub, you owe the trans community that much & Frankie is a hell of a writer

This is rough but I think it talks about a lot of what is missing from the Cunningham/WNBA discourse. Namely, that trans people are not hypothetical thought experiments. They are real people who are being genocided by our government & any coverage that doesn't center that reality misses the mark.

a lot of people will respond with "yeah, that's how taxes work." but it's not just charity, it's an investment that will drive down prices for everyone. good people are ok with charity, but it misses that a lot of public investments are net positives for everyone but the ultra wealthy.

Opinion: Mamdani's idea may sound appealing, but it's NYC taxpayers who will take the hit, subsidizing discounts they may never even use.

If they can send even a single scientist to prison over something that plainly did not happen, they can imprison anyone for anything at any time for any reason. Those are the stakes. You don’t hear that from legacy publications like NYT.

Please stop saying “lockdowns.” There were never true lockdowns in the US, and it fuels far right narratives to repeat this inaccurate statement. You can say closures, you can say restrictions, or better, you can say public health measures which saved many lives.

Dr. Lucky Tran@luckytran.com · 6d ago

People still complain about “lockdowns” but we had none in the US. We had stay-at-home orders, where although businesses were closed, you could still go outside whenever you wanted. Other countries had far stricter rules, and yet have been much more accepting of them as they saved many more lives.

Today, Tarrant County Judge Tim O'Hare threw constituents out of a PUBLIC HEARING after voters questioned his plan to remove 140+ voting locations ahead of the midterms. Throwing a temper tantrum when voters disagree isn't new for O'Hare— it's a cowardly pattern from a panicked politician.

This was the view from my seat. I was the first to speak after the arrest. It was surreal to see Tim O’Hare call the marshals on a 70+ year old man and haul him away. Tarrant county is GROUND ZERO for all of the bullshit the THUGS are pulling to attempt to remain in power. Watch the space!!!

NEW: Republican officials were set to vote on a plan to cut almost half of Election Day voting locations in Tarrant County, a major Texas battleground county. But all that changed when outraged voters who packed the meeting room demanded their voting locations remain open.

The plan changed at the last moment, when Republican officials were faced with a massive backlash from outraged voters

Who among us has not (checks notes) had a jigsaw puzzle made of a handwritten note asking a member of our own personal staff on a date to an (checks notes) Adam Sandler show on (checks notes) September 11th (Checks notes because that can’t be right)?

NEW: Voters have rejected Republicans' scheme to unseat the Kansas Supreme Court's Dem-appointed majority and overturn abortion rights. Amendment 1 would have let the GOP replace the system of a nominating commission, gubernatorial appointment, and retention elections with direct partisan elections

interesting historical framing of China's techno-industrial strategy. 18thC: Britain did Steam Engine, Russia did imperial land grabs 19thC-20thC: US did 2nd industrial revolution, Europe did imperial land grabs. 21stC: China does industrial revolution, US does imperial adventures....

This is a wildly prescient story about Chicago's proto-RFK Jr., in charge of public health during the Spanish Flu. He thought beer killed malaria and that bathing could kill you. He had a feud with an actual TB doctor, who insisted bathing is good. He bullied the TB doctor until he killed himself.

Sachs believed that the new administration was undermining patient care by making hiring and contract decisions based on political connections. Thompson and Robertson in turn accused Sachs of being financially extravagant, incompetent, and dictatorial. As Sachs resigned from the sanitarium he had worked tirelessly to build, Frank Billings, one of the most respected physicians in the city, called Robertson “utterly unqualified.”

On April 2, 1916, Sachs committed suicide. For reformers and the medical establishment, Sachs was a martyr to grotesque political corruption. Although The Republican, a propaganda sheet literally published in an office in City Hall, sneered that suicide “occasionally has been a haven of moral cowards who preferred the shelter of death to public exposure of their shortcomings,” Robertson took a less confrontational tone after Sachs’s death. Still, he refused to step down.

The AP is also projecting that Amendment 4 in Missouri will lose; it's currently getting crushed, 82–18%. This measure would have made it very hard to pass citizen-initiated constitutional amendments by requiring them to pass in every congressional district.

Not sure if everyone appreciates the difference. Rooftop solar hardwires into your main panel via a dedicated breaker, so it requires a permit, an installer, an electrician, and a utility agreement. Balcony solar just plugs into a wall outlet, sharing an existing circuit with no permits or rewiring.

Why is it always a zero sum game with these bozos? You can simply promote equal rights for trans people AND everything else that matters. Anything else is just oppression for the sake of it.
