Been avoiding this but it’s Super Important to have access to knowledge & experience w neurodivergence ASAP. A big source of lifetime torture among people with ADHD roots from inability to contextualize & put into words what we are experiencing both within & from how the outside world responds to us

Janice Turner: Is your ADHD diagnosis really helping you?
A huge increase in those claiming the condition as well as receiving Pip to cope with it risks creating a lost generation

This is exactly the thing. Trans rights are worth defending because trans people are worth defending and, also, simultaneously, at the same time, the very basic statistical truth is that the overwhelming majority of people harmed by mandated & enforced gender norms are not going to be trans.

Courtney Milan@courtneymilan.com · last mo.

I hate doing the "a rollback of trans rights is the gateway for a rollback of women's rights" thing because trans rights are human rights in and of themselves, whatever the impact on cis women. But goddamn I wish more cis women had a sense of history and self preservation.

the experience of COVID really drove this home for me. It wans't the apocalypse, life went on, but a million people died and there were enormous social costs, some of which continue to this day and then when it was done most people were like "let's never think about that again"

Dave Willner@dwillner.bsky.social · last mo.

Certain kinds of smart people tend to have a "sexy apocalypse" problem when it comes to thinking about risk. E.g. skynet turning everyone in paperclips, while bad, is also *kind of cool and fun* at the same time. Where the reality is that most actual disasters are both stupid and disappointing.

I’m sorry but I absolutely judge you if you send your kids to charter schools instead of MPS. Charters only test better because they get to kick out whatever kids they deem unfit. They’re racist & ableist & classist and worse for children in every way.

Adam@wyseapple.bsky.social · last mo.

This is happening all over the country, as well. Parents want to do what’s best. But these collective decisions add up. My elementary school was demolished after existing for over 100 years, despite the area growing in population. Parents opted out and sent their kids to charters. 🤷🏻‍♂️

underrated part of El-Sayed’s messaging strategy seems to be shaming journalists who ask dumb questions that play into right-wing frames. you can’t answer these in a way that satisfies them, but you can make it embarrassing enough that you impose a toll on asking.

Abdul El-Sayed: "Weijia, with all due respect, this is the third time you've asked about a Twitch streamer ... their whole game is to make us fight culture wars so that we don't pay attention to the fact the president has made $2.2 billion ... "

I thought it was ridiculous that families were charged $8/person to attend a public high school soccer match so I did something about it. 1. Please come cheer on this team! We have a new (young, awesome, BIPOC) coaching staff and the players are a reflection of our beautiful community in Roseville.

THANK YOU to our boys soccer match sponsors! Their donations mean that match admission is at no-cost to families and fans.

More sponsors needed to help us increase access to the beautiful game!

I remain convinced that the most effective response to a politician or a pundit who's pushing transphobia is "I'm not sure why you're obsessed with other people's genitals but it's really creepy"

This is already what we do with hundreds of other issues. If your dad is a flat earther you don't need to flame him every time you see him. But if you're writing an op-ed for the NYT you shouldn't start with, "flat earthers make some good points..."

the infuriating thing about all of the crises going on right now is that they were completely predictable the second they announced they were gutting food safety monitoring, everyone knew it would lead to a bunch of contamination and recalls! we could have just not done it! it's all so stupid

Minnesota Reformer@minnesotareformer.com · 2mo ago

This summer's food recalls are broader in scope, longer-lasting, and more severe than past years as regulators are slow to respond. The parasite surveillance staff at the CDC, which responds to outbreaks (such as cyclosporiasis), was downsized last year by DOGE from 11 people to three.

It's so weird that Dolly Parton used her money to help ordinary people in a thousand different meaningful ways *and* lived an incredibly happy fulfilled life, almost like there's some sort of connection between the two. Anyway, let me read about another AI CEO poisoning a town for shits and giggles
