But often, those end-points have subtle differences that are only revealed when things go wrong. If all you care about is how things work, chances are good that you're in for an unpleasant surprise when things *fail*. 7/

Elon Musk is planning to spend at least $100 million to help Republicans in this year’s midterms. That’s just 0.014 percent of his current $702 billion net worth. Oligarchs can rig the system at the expense of everyone else, and only spend pennies doing so. We must get Big Money out of politics.

Neoclassical econ assumes rationality. The corollary of, "If you're so smart, why aren't you rich?" is "you're rich, so you must be very smart!" Thus, people assume that if powerful, well-compensated CEOs insist that "AI is changing everything," well then, *AI must be changing everything*. 1/

I work at a public library. People who want to use AI seem to have no trouble doing so. People who don't want to use AI have a harder time. I crowdsourced and then finalized this document "How to disable or avoid intrusive AI" and then gave it a short URL: notoai.org Please pass along if it's useful

For writers worried that they won't be able to "prove" their work isn't Spicy Autocomplete--worry not. You thought about every choice and will be able to talk about those choices easily and clearly. Folks who used the slop machine didn't make choices and won't have anything to say about why

Yeah, two things can be true--you can genuinely enjoy and even love a movie and also have (or agree with) criticisms of it. This is normal and ok.

I enjoyed Nolan's ODYSSEY quite a bit, and found it more moving than expected. I also read Wilson's critique and found that both enjoyable and insightful. It's not even really a bad review -- it's an incisive dissection from the POV of someone whose knives have long been sharpened on the material.

READ. @europarl.europa.eu - I would go so far as to say that EU is not without its own arsenal in these disputes. The fines is just one tool. Getting rid of the copyright directive is another. Hardening our courts another. And the nuke in the toolkit - withdrawing access to the EU.

The "Serenity Prayer" (*Serenity to accept things I can't change/Courage to change the things I can/Wisdom to know the difference*) is usually cited as pop psychology or addiction recovery advice, but I think there's a place for it in policymaking. 1/

The more shenanigans Trump gets up to with regards to making it impossible to get the fines out of the USA, the more EU needs to make noise that the copyright directive is under scrutiny, and the harder EU needs to make it to use our own courts against EU.

I'm always amused by the way humans fetishize "walking upright," "tool use," and "language" as the iconic features of a superior species. And of course we ignore or downplay the obvious signs of all three in every other species. "They only walk upright SOMETIMES. Not like a true upright walker."
