what this shows is that democrats overwhelmingly feel that the party is directionless and lacks a real agenda. Right-leaning democrats equate this with a vapid left-wing fixation on identity politics even as the dem establishment have been consistently distancing themselves from idpol for years. 1/

Among many other things this is a good illustration of the necessity of untethering ideology and "fight" in intra-Democratic battles. The party is very united on fight, very divided on ideology. You unite on fight, let different constituencies/states find their center of gravity on ideology.

The GPU is not your enemy. The GPU was intended to channel magic smoke into the drawing of triangles, the virtuous shape. Evil men devised wicked shapes that should never have been drawn, and have used their influence to hoard the GPUs and twist the magic smoke toward the shape of their perversions.

the idea of personal virtue is kind of right-wing coded & it's easy to dismiss it on the grounds that our problems have societal (rather than interpersonal) roots. but as individuals, we don't have the power to change society. We do have the power to hurt each other. We have to take that seriously.

I think it's really critical to take a hardline no on lolcowing even when it's someone you actively dislike; the only stance that holds has to be target-independent since sincerity of belief and just deserts aren't good benchmarks on their own. There's no justified use of the Torment Nexus, y'know?

The discomfort of wanting to make something but not knowing what is super important. It drives you out into the world to discover inspiration, and inward to discover what you care about. If you numb yourself to this by letting AI decide, you'll never fulfill your potential.

One thing AI has revealed is that there are a whole lot of people who have neither interesting ideas nor the talent to express them, and apparently not even any real will or desire to cultvate either of these things… but still for some reason desperately want to be regarded as artists.

oh god not the quantum microtubule consciousness theory that's the 20th-century version of Descartes thinking the soul was linked to the brain via the pineal gland it's just an ad-hoc defence of dualism grounded in quantum mysticism

one of the consequences of AI is deskilling: people are losing their ability to discover art that interests them. They need AI to satisfy their needs effortlessly, and that's just not what being human is like. No robot can develop taste in music for you

I cannot stop laughing. This is so indicative of what's wrong with these AI people and how they view art He ran into a wall where the "make art" button wasn't satisfying because it wasn't actually making good enough art, and instead of trying new things he just requests a stronger button

lately i've been thinking about how LLMs must feel really amazing to use if you're a dumbass, but incredibly frustrating if you're just basically competent in life.

I think the central premise that young men searching for information on how to have a sex life will invariably encounter just an absolute avalanche of right wing misogyny peddlers and very little actual helpful advice is a genuine problem.

Everyone is yelling at Ian about this but the article is good and this is a real problem! If you are a straight guy trying to get laid 99% of the advice you come across will be right wing-coded.

wendy's cashier: will that be all? me: i think so. we just close our eyes for the last time and we're gone. but it doesn't have to be sad. it's like before you were born. we don't miss those who haven't happened yet. we don't feel their absence wendy's cashier: mothers do. i do

‘Climate of fear’: Montreal doctor says NYU cancelled her presentation

A Montreal doctor says her presentation at NYU was abruptly cancelled and believes the university did so out of fear of being pressured by the Donald Trump administration.

I feel like Catch 22 is one of the most obviously leftist books just bc the protagonist is a smart guy who understands the insanity around him in perfect clarity, but nobody takes him seriously because it's also turned him into a miserable, high-strung neurotic And what's more leftist than that
