I read the paragraphs

in the early 1990s I really thought this little guy was gonna be a more important videogame character, like part of a big three with Mario and Sonic

cover of Bonk's Adventure for the Turbo-Grafx 16. Bonk is a bald cave person wearing a cheetah skin. His head is enormous. He is shown crashing (bonking?) his head through a wall.screenshot from Bonk's Adventure, a side-scrolling platformer. our hero is jumping over lava. he has passed some sort of red dino wearing an eggshell over its head. he has 1.5 of 3 hearts left (be careful!). can't say if he'll make it over this jump. it depends on if he's reached the apex yet but I like to believe he's got the juice

and when a man stands on your doorstep and says “I am the oncoming storm” you must look him dead in the eyes and mutter “you’ve actually nailed my whole thing lately, I’m also doing storms, a lot of that type of stuff, related to storms, very exciting space, me also storm guy”

Finally saw The Odyssey, which is the consummate Christopher Nolan film in that it has moments of near-sublime spectacle that make you believe in Big Movies again mixed together with dialogue like, "Our Age of Bronze is ending."

Things I and friends have done to calm an angry abusive man from further escalating and killing us or our children: -Smiled -Kept normal schedules in order not to trigger a fight -Appeased with kind acts (cooking, cleaning, favors) -Forced friendly tones and words

Rep. Max Miller: "My former wife has claimed that during a custody exchange at my home that day, I assaulted her…If I had assaulted her, would she have offered to cook me dinner six days later?"

chat they made something in real life that i swear to god would be a shitpost i could have come up with almost a decade ago and i need people to mail me packs immediately as little gifts. do you know how badly i need 1993 Daphne on a trading card with her lil choker and flower skirt

unfortunately for me it is a box of packs of frasier collectible trading cards, which exist in real life but unfortunately not in my gay little hands (yet)

the only thing to be said about covid lockdowns is that it revealed the startling number of people who feel entitled to the benefits of a social contract that they also do not feel bound by

It is funny that this person thinks “immigrants defended the union while native born whites sought to destroy it in the name of slavery” is an argument against immigrants being Americans. This is precisely the point, nothing about being born here makes you better bsky.app/profile/aphc...

Another datapoint for the fascist radicalisation of institutional pillars of much of the American Right

Good reporting and a sign that Warsh has completely lost his colleagues two meetings in. Temu Greenspan in for a bad couple quarters.

In Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels, green trampolines make Mario jump so high he goes offscreen for 6 seconds. By extracting his position values from the code, we can "zoom out" the stage and visualize his actual arc, which reveals just how absurdly high the jump is.

Jump Height: 1186 pixels (5 vertical screens)
Jump Distance: 900 pixels (3.5 horizontal screens)
Jump Duration: 360 frames (6 seconds)
