Somebody asked me on Reddit why people who use AI to generate Recomp projects are currently being rejected from the communities and what they can do to fix this. I might tweak parts of this to be a more general blog post at some point, but this should be of help to anyone in a similar situation.

I'm going to take a lesser cynicism here and assume the majority of them are bullshitting. 'We're fully AI-integated!' is catnip for the idiot investor crowd. You want your project funded, you say the magic/stupid words. And if they ask HOW you're integated, you can just say 🤷'Conceptualization!'🤷

It’ll be interesting to learn, on the other side of the AI crash, which AAA studios had actually built dependencies on generative AI into their processes, and which were bullshitting.

to avoid talking about anyone specific, i am really fucking tired of people of any kind playing defense for lolicon, but especially those who are trying to frame it as a civil rights/free speech issue and/or forcibly attach it to queer identity [that shit's gross btw]

Folks struggling to make it as indies should probably read this: klangmag.co/lifers-dayjo... Also he only mentions rich kids and day jobbers, but there's also "has a spouse with a good job", "their parent died and left them just enough to get ahead" and "managed to pay off house so don't have rent"

Saw a couple of posts from US artists saying BSky is now asking them for age verification. Please follow the link in this repost. I’m the UK we’ve had this crap going on for over a year. The methods listed here work great, it’s what I use it (no way I’m providing personal info!)

UK folks: If UBlock is not working anymore for you to bypass the UK age restriction rules (no way I'm giving them personal info), please be aware that the codes to copy/paste into UBlock's filter rules have changed! gist.github.com/mary-ext/6e2...

For some people, video games are about the wonder of exploring strange, thrilling, action-packed worlds but for me the joy of video games has always been all about moving to a franchise-centric planning strategy to better focus resources on long-term growth and stability amid broader restructuring.

Xbox and Bethesda logo above a collage of game art featuring characters and scenes from Dishonored, Wolfenstein, The Elder Scrolls, Fallout, DOOM, Starfield, The Evil Within, and Prey.

both of those articles are about how discs are fragile and unsafe, poor for digital preservation, and they argue for either 1) a return of cartridges (polygon) or 2) true ownership of data without DRM & platform locks (gizmodo) but you'd have to read more than the headline to find that out i guess

Screenshot of a bluesky poster (whose name and avatar has been censored) writing: "looks like the Sony PR team has begun its consent manufacturing operation among the media in the past 24 hours. I wonder how many other gaming outlets and influencers this week will also happen to put posts/articles/videos declaring that eliminating physical media from consoles is good, actually?" and below it two screenshots of articles from Gizmodo and Polygon headlined "game discs deserve to die" and "I won't mourn PlayStation discs"

stuff like this makes me wish bsky had community notes, bc this is highly deceptive and makes people around here bat for a serial cybercriminal group that clearly did bad shit and held ppl's data for ransom. you can just look it up on wikipedia en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lapsus$

Locking up an autistic kid in a mental hospital for life for leaking a clip of a game is bullshit. Guess I'm never playing a Rockstar game again.

As the director of a historical video game preservation institution, and someone who has dedicated his entire adult life to this cause, this is accurate. We have attempted to work with the industry's trade organization to find a legal path forward, but they refuse to offer a meaningful alternative.

piracy is the only extant form of media preservation that exists in games right now, you might find it morally reprehensible but there is literally no other institution that will keep games alive in 25, 50 years' time
