Councillors should be next-level embarrassed about inaccessible bus stops on main routes without sidewalks, and proposing temporary tactical protection for users.
Gillis is up, this is embarrassing for us (yes transit is embarrassing)
Sitting on North at Robie ... light turns green, nothing moves. As soon as light turns red, space on other side of intersection opens up, filled by right-turning cars from Robie. Light turns green, nothing moves. Rinse and repeat. #HaliSky #HfxTraffic #BridgeSNAFU

Receiving these kinds of emails never gets old. I provide public goods to fellow academics, students and society in general largely because I strive to create a better, more humane and human academic environment. This is from a few years ago. To this day, I keep getting these emails. Really happy.
In honor of Raul Pacheco-Vega passing, you should go read everything he's posted. It's full of good advice on how to be an academic and writing strategies.
If you are curious about how I arrived to this unofficial "writing/research design/research methods & techniques guru" situation, I basically did what Tulley did in her book: I asked my former professors at UBC (and other universities): "what are your writing strategies? TEACH ME EVERYTHING".
I was saddened to learn of the death of Raul Pacheco-Vega earlier this week. I’ve known Raul for a very long time. I’ve written something for my website. Read here: jovanevery.co.uk/in-memoriam-...

Lamento profundamente a partida do prof Raul Pacheco-Vega. Conhecia-o apenas via Twitter, mas sua generosidade ultrapassou fronteiras geográficas, acadêmicas e linguísticas. Aqui deixo o link do seu blog, sempre informativo. www.raulpacheco.org/blog/

I’m on the bus heading downtown for Mayor Fillmore’s state of the municipality address. There’s a lineup of cars on North Street heading downtown. Are these drivers heading to an event to hear about a speech on solving congestion?
What I find most egregious about the program costing the Houston government is forcing on Nova Scotia's universities is not any detail of the formula they're using. It's that the whole exercise treats universities as subsidiaries of a provincial training conglomerate. That's a mistake two ways 1/
@alexusherhesa.bsky.social has started a deep dive into the methodology that the Nova Scotia government is using to measure the net cost of academic programs offered by our universities. A couple of thoughts:
