Personnel is policy. We can talk about new regulatory schemes to address corporate power, but sometimes it is as simple as installing personnel who don't feel like they have to constantly consult and privilege business interests. Note that there are many other avenues to engage with city hall.

The Wall Street Journal@wsj.com · 19h ago

New York City’s business elites are long accustomed to direct access to City Hall, where even Democratic mayors felt the need to court the city’s wealthiest and most influential corporate leaders. That access is getting shredded by Mayor Zohran Mamdani.

NBC is calling the Michigan Senate primary for Abdul El-Sayed as the projected winner with 685,600 votes and 89.7% of expected votes in and a 2% lead over Haley Stevens’ 657,905 votes. Mallory McMorrow finishes in a distant third with 55,878 votes.

They just never poll Detroit correctly and it's frustratingly misleading. Also, most of the Detroit vote just isn't in. Bless them, love them, but they've been slow af my entire life. (No offense if that's your fam down there counting!)

🧊 is so bad out there. There's been a bunch of abductions in Jersey City already today. Please look out for your neighbors. Anywhere in New Jersey you can call the DIRE hotline and they will be able to get sighting info to ppl who can help. 888-347-3767 Please call if you see anything.

Anyway, I made a reading list in public. I try to avoid doing that. The Twitter “syllabus” wars scarred me. It’s gonna be a touchy few days.

The city of Madison is clearing the Ruiz memorial site right now with cops. Many unhoused folks are sleeping there right now and at risk for harm. If you are local and can get down there, please do ASAP. Help people clear their stuff out and de-escalate. Document the harm. Whatever you can do.

The SCREEN Act is not just another age-verification bill — it goes much further than anything passed at the state-level or in other countries. 1. The bill doesn't just target porn sites. It goes after *any* site that allows material "harmful" to minors. You'd have to scan your face to use Google.

it would be helpful if Dems stated their intent to hold hearings on these trump university deals and to consider sanctions against university officials who are found to be involved in bribery or discrimination.

How Elite Colleges Aided Censorship During the Red Scares

Powerful organizations during the Red Scares crafted a world where “academic freedom” was conditional on political allegiance.

Opposition to AI data centers is uniting Wisconsinites across the political spectrum. I’ve been on the side of the people since day one. As governor, I’ll call a special session of the Legislature for a moratorium on new construction. We won’t get Foxconned again.

The summer I moved to Detroit, I was able to walk down my street with a deck of cards and get a euchre game going by asking neighbors sitting on their porches. A Midwestern staple. Tip for learning: Start with another trick game before euchre. Hearts > Spades > Euchre might be a good progression.

We are trying to plan a trip next year to the Minnesota State Fair so these card games are in preparation. (My understanding is that all Minnesotans play euchre.)

This is a bad piece. 1. It uncritically makes use of prosecution materials to piece together what activists thought and did 2. It whitewashes resistance in Minn, Chicago, and elsewhere 3. It betrays ignorance of movement history, from abolitionism through the panthers through M4BL

"Their actions ensured that they struggled to achieve sympathetic media coverage outside of a few left-wing outlets, struggled to attract material or legal support (the ACLU, for instance, refused to touch the case), and failed to achieve positive virality in the larger culture."
