You can/should read Emily Wilson's latest take on the Odyssey, but I'm logging on to convey my hairdresser's reaction. She was AGHAST that Nolan, with his million $ budget, gave Matt Damon ONLY 6 hair extensions. As a result, his hair did not blow around properly, & that ruined the film for her.
"I'm getting fed up with getting pulled by you guys, so this one will result in a complaint," says the driver with 59 points on his licence. 59 points, and still driving, and he didn't go to prison. The system is broken. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

There are two wolves. One always lies. One controls the lever of trolley track. They're in a state of superposition inside a box. On the trolley are infinite monkeys at infinite typewriters going to an infinite hotel. The trolley must first travel halfway, but before that a quarterway, and so on...

The UK government is buying stolen goods No, of course its not like dodgy blokes in pubs and fell-off-the-back-of-a-lorry, but it is theft I am not happy about this
I've confirmed that the UK's new Sovereign AI Fund does no due diligence on whether AI companies use copyrighted work without permission before investing in them. It took me 3 Freedom of Information requests to find this out: 🧵 1/10
Thanks for all the reposts, word of mouth is very important. I have told both of my friends about Unch, if we all did that there could be literally dozens of us in just a few short years.
Issue Four is getting printed right now! Pre-sale copies will be posted out as soon as I can once I get them - early next week hopefully. If you’ve not already bought one, now would be a good time. Unchcrosswords.com As ever please do spread the word far & wide thanks xxx
I often find myself remembering Cleese talking about how disappointed he was when he met Malcolm Muggeridge for the Life of Brian debate and saw this once-sharply comedic mind he enjoyed growing up reduced to spouting such pitiful, reactionary, conservative nonsense…
I once had the privilege of sitting on a panel with John Cleese. He was delightful in person, but I have to say I’m not overly staggered he’s voicing support for a proper nightmare extremist.
RIP Bill Oddie. "On Ilkla Moor Baht’at," his version of a 19th Century Yorkshire song set to a parody of Joe Cocker's "With a Little Help from my Friends," done for John Peel's Dandelion label in 1970. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ir_Y...

I have a modest proposal for a new tax. It involves a deck of cards and a monkey throwing darts. Here are the rules:
Can you imagine the uproar if someone's legal car was seized and immediately crushed because some woodentop made a mistake? And the Police don't even apologise or accept they made a mistake. It's good to see this go mainstream. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

The BBC finds the bike was legal and supplied as part of a scheme to reduce pollution in the city.

A note on scansion Thirty years of hurt = five syllables Sixty-four years of hurt = six syllables and the stresses are all wrong Eight squared years of hurt is what you're looking for Or, Four cubed years of hurt if you're feeling fancy
Yes I'm sure taking loads of drugs must be great but what is also quite exciting is going for a walk in remote woodland and stumbling across a lone inexplicable brutalist pillar.
… because our technicians and facilities are the best. The creative arts is literally the LAST industry in which the UK is still a global leader but it’s treated like something frivolous and unimportant, rather than the MASSIVE income stream it is.
Exactly. Nobody’s buying British cars, or eating our fish, or importing our food, but they ARE watching our TV shows, reading our books, shelling out hundreds to go see our pop stars and rock bands, our movies punch above their weight and Hollywood still makes half its blockbusters HERE…
#AlphabetChallenge #WeekAforAbandoned. Two abandoned #bridges. #DevilsBridge near #DevilsBridge in #Ceredigion, Wales. I like the way they just kept going up over the older bridges. Three of them here.
I don't usually write personal stuff, but a few words about my experience of being interviewed by Gary Stevenson. It started with a nice chat, comparing taste in hoodies... then the tone changed. He demanded to know why I'd deleted a tweet criticising him.

To me Private Eye's take on what this place is like is far more accurate
i like unions because i think that they are the best instrument within the bad system we live in to give workers a voice in a power struggle. i dont think they are always right, and i think they are more than perfectly capable to use their power and voice for causes i disagree with
