The cube (d6) and the icosahedron (d20) have been used in games of chance since at least Roman times. All cultures used dice. In modern wargaming primarily the d6 was used.

I appreciate the plight… it sucks! The challenge is there's so much of EVERYTHING. Games, TV shows, movies…there are 100s of "new" things vying for attention every day. "One sentence or a number" is a way to start culling; watching a 30m vid for help deciding to see a 90m movie isn't sustainable.

Just learned that skunks can spray in either a 30-foot line or a 15-foot-diameter area of effect centered on them, and I don't think I've ever heard of an animal more obviously operating by tabletop RPG rules. (Thanks to @davekellett.bsky.social on @comiclab.bsky.social for the education.)
