Are data centers monuments to technofascism or simply a way to pull the pin in the penultimate climate change grenade? Could be both. Anyway, here's the NYT talking about AI-powered air pollution.

It is infuriating to hear people cheer the wrong metrics... success isn't measured by how many people are on food stamps, the metric should be HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE GOING HUNGRY.
Rollins: "For those who love work and celebrate work and want people to work and not be on food stamps, it's a pretty big win when we've moved 5 million people off food stamps, y'all."
Public comment matters, folks!

A major wildland interface fire event currently happening in Spokane. Level 3 evacuations for areas in front of a fast-moving wildfire. Level 3 means GO!! This is a life-threatening event. Do not wait!!! #OldTrailsFire
This is, unfortunately, turning into a dull-fledged wildfire disaster based on the verified reports I've seen.
Well, it's official...Denver just hit 90° for the 28th time this month, setting a new record for most 90-degree days for any month on record. Old record: 27 days (July 1964 + 2012). #COwx

AI has ruined image search. Soooo much AI generated slop - and so many people using it on real articles, news releases, corporate propaganda. It's pretty much impossible to find anything real.

keep thinking about the evil of this. It's not just destroying the physical books, bad as that is. They are trying to remove the underpinnings of knowledge, destroy all the accumulated wisdom - and silliness, and creativity, and whatever else humans have thought worthy of writing down.
No longer content with pillaging intellectual work and dismembering our environment (already critically weakened), AI companies are now hellbent on destroying books galore including rare editions. Shut down these nefarious enterprises already.
Backstory on the Melat Kiros campaign that beat Diana DeGette via @coloradotimesrecorder.com A lot resonates. Big for me is how the voting landscape has changed (in CO CD 1 but also everywhere) and how this candidate and campaign saw that clearly. coloradotimesrecorder.com/2026/07/behi...

Color me SKEPTICAL, but when I hear that Patreon laid off 20% of the team, I read it as Patreon isn't doing that well. CEO Jack Conte's note says it's not *really* about AI but it also is about AI?
