Linux generates zero revenue and yet it’s one of the most contributed-to open source software projects in existence. If anything, thinking of social media as a business rather than a utility has been a net negative for both social media and society. There are other ways to build software

I would argue that this is likely Bluesky's future. It may never be the majority social network but its work and ATProto already supports a whole huge halo of other stuff. That stuff becoming profitable will be more key to the long term success of this site then the size of participation here.

The big news outlets (NYT, ABC, etc.) often dismiss their critics, particularly people who use social media. But the coverage of last night's speech was actually pretty honest---and therefore scathing. People on here and other places demanding less false equivalence/both sides are getting results.
