The message from Trump is crystal clear - if you beat the hell of out police, if you threaten to kill FBI officers - I will make sure you get away with it if you are breaking the law to keep me in power. If you don't see it, this is a message about 2028.

It should be very clear to every Senate Democrat that any vote for Cloture will also be considered a vote for the bill. People aren’t going to be tricked with procedural games. They know exactly what is going on. Defend Medicaid. Vote NO on Cloture. NO on bill.

This feels like a major inflection point. If ICE can apparently unlawfully arrest & disappear a permanent resident and it is not immediately met with strong opposition from the public, officials, and courts, there is no going back.

The problem with studying political violence for a living is that I can imagine far darker scenarios than Orban's Hungary. America's own history suggests a greater reliance on coercion and violence. Orban's Hungary might be the ceiling, not the floor, of Trump's America

This cowardly, oh no the Republicans said we're bad for the economy, whatever will we do? stance is so demoralizing and in general such a losing strategy. And yet I already see people being like "welp better not talk about climate or trans rights" that is NOT THE LESSON here, for crying out loud
