One of the things I find so off-putting about AI generated imagery is just how overgreebled it is, it always adds too much detail, and when it comes to trying to depict food, it ends up looking like it's crawling with insects or triggering trypophobia, it's extremely off-putting.

The same people who say history is just memorizing names and dates are the same people who think teaching the humanities in college is a waste of time. That narrow minded thinking is the result of the Republican assault on education over the past half century. They don't want you to go to college.

this is literally what I do for a living and it's called "blameless root cause" where you identify everything that went wrong without assigning blame to any one person in particular. the NTSB really went all in on this and it's one of the reasons airplane travel is/(was?) so safe in the US.

It's amazing how much of right-wing politics is just an outright hostility to any idea of the collective or interconnectedness, and how much of our politics has been locked around satisfying people who are fundamentally hostile to the concept of society as a consequence. It's pathetic!

Honestly, filtering for, "the Nazis were bad, Stalin was bad, the correct side won WWII" is the easiest way to filter out 90+% of bad faith interlocutors if only everyone was honest about their views but the fascists and tankies know this and so sometimes falsify their opinions strategically.

Covid lockdowns demonstrated, in a deeply imperfect way, the possibility of large-scale social solidarity for a higher cause. That is a prime reason why so many powerful people want us to run screaming away from them into the comforting arms of selfish individualist competition.

It’s 49C in Basra, Iraq today. Coolest it will get overnight is 36C. Temperatures will top 50C next week. #Climate breakdown is already well underway. Furnace-like conditions like this will continue to spread, year after year.
